Thanks for making this! One thing that would be great is an option to just show the race comparison or the gender comparison. If I’m comparing Alphabet with the tech sector in general, it currently shows that Alphabet is 37% white male whil

A lot of this was common in the US and Europe a hundred years ago, but laws and changing culture have stopped it. Just look at snake oil, or the many other “remedies”. See, eg, “ Down and Out in Paris and London” by Orwell, where among many

That’s basically how IntelliJ (and the other JetBrain IDEs) work. They market it as a subscription, but after you’ve been subscribed for a year you get an key that lasts forever for the version that you initially subscribed to. Subscription

Train prices go up a lot (a factor of 2 or more) when it’s close to the time of the train, since the price is based on how full the train is currently booked. You might get cheaper train trips by booking further out. Buses will still beat t

Long distance trains in the US are frequently full, they just don’t run as often. And the US does the same thing where it’s cheaper in advance.

Gyms and telcos in the US certainly do this type of thing, though usually not with paper forms specifically. At gyms, they often won’t let you get out of the contract no matter what you say, or they’ll say you’re free and then keep on charg

Unfortunately I doubt that Darwin saying more would have prevented that. Perhaps they would call it something else, but more likely they would just ignore it. There are plenty of things that Adam Smith said against modern capitalism, but th

If I get two vacation weeks off a year, I probably will use up one week on visiting family, another week on an interesting trip, and then that’s all the vacation for the year. If I want to visit friends as well, I just can’t. But if I can w

You can take an arbitrarily high pixel count photo of anything with enough cameras side by side. But this is exciting (to scientists) because it’s taking the photos in specific wavelength and outside of the Earth’s atmosphere.

Where are you traveling that hotel rooms are that expensive!? Up and down the US east coast, there are plenty of perfectly good two-queen-bed rooms for under $100 per night. I recently stayed in downtown Boston in a boutique hotel for $130&

Ideally it could be a compiler flag. Even more ideally, you could tell your compiler what the max size you want is and then it would optimize for the best speed at a given executable footprint.
