That's a good idea. Thanks! I'm curious at what the usual pay is like though - do startups really try to compensate you with more options/equity than with salary?

Where's the best place to find a place to rent in NYC? And how would I tell if it's a relatively safe neighbourhood?

Congratulations on your startup! In my opinion, you could check out what kind of courses they typically offer in their curriculum at MIT/etc and check out their corresponding courses on OCW. Since you're doing this out of sheer fun, don't b

Sounds like a good opportunity. Are there developer positions in Toronto? (I had a look at the careers' site and there seems to be many senior positions so I'm not sure if I can fit in)

Will this mean that you will need a tiny army to check everyone? I'm just curious at how you would be able to handle say 2000 people trying to be a tutor? Qualifications are also easy to be fraudulent. On a side note, I hope you don't take

Everything is mostly always measured by money. And it seems like the author of the post reckons it's really easy for everyone to become entrepreneurs. I would say let the kids do what they want with their life - provide some guidelines but

Sadly, the teachers are sometimes not motivated to inspire their students. It might be the case that they are teaching because of the need to do it instead of wanting to do it. Some are just doing it to complete their MScs and PhDs which is

How will they verify these qualifications are completely accurate? If they can prove that their tutors are of actual quality then maybe. I can see something like an Elance test happening to try and control the quality of listings.

Hi there, I'll give you my 2 cents worth as I definitely felt the same way and even more so when I went out to work. A CS degree is probably not required for most work out there. Even though some put it as a requirement to narrow the criter

So I'm guessing Google can't claim ignorance (i.e. did not check all code line by line for copyright material) when they bought Android as a defence statement?

I wonder if the code was copied before Google bought Android or after. And would they be able to just pay licensing to Oracle for the code? I don't get one thing. I thought Java is supposedly open-source? How come there's proprietary source

I'd love to contribute (been looking for a Python project to contribute all this while) but I'm fairly new and haven't much a clue. I guess the best way to start is to get the project and play around with it but I was hoping if you have any

Google Wave - under thought and over engineered? And this is coming from a screenwriter - NOT a designer. NOT an engineer. I thought it was a great experiment. Shut down yes, but it's being open-sourced and I can see people will pick it up.

Sure! While I can't recall any on the top of my head (I'll be sure to send you some if I come across it again - will make an effort to try again at a later date), it's usually more to deal with very specific technical terms. Maybe overly sp

These questions definitely do make sense. If you look at Google's white papers and research, you'll see that their creative implementations allow them to use commodity hardware to build a huge server farm. This allows them to scale quickly

Agreed. And it seems like "professional world" only involves the United States. Last I heard, we have more than 1 country in this world. Pretty sure many other actual world-class firms would take these grads.
