I'm guessing that most Google Alerts are "vanity alerts," as your examples suggest. The putative decline of the service could thus fit with the idea that such functions are meant to be subsumed by Google+.

I agree, but god damn, I am jealous. I have two small children and I've finished one book this year. (Coders at Work by Peter Siebel, I highly recommend it.) My wife reads 10x faster than I do but completely eschews the kind of readi

If you're happy, keep on truckin'. But to answer your question. This has been said a million times, but here's another angle. In a recent talk, Rich Hickey was talking about the design of electronic music modules: > In o

It seems like the author is confusing progressive enhancement with progressive rendering. Either way, to say that the Dale piece "conclusively" shows progressive enhancement to be "a futile act" is, in the OP's word

Maybe it is also a reaction to what is often remarked upon as the falling signal to noise ratio: if everyone may expect to be skewered, then fewer will be encouraged to post.

Both this and problems like LukeShu mentioned. For example, I had a problem where org-mode would hang in certain cases when using \mdash with pretty-entites turned on. Or csharp-mode would hang when editing around preprocessor directives.

This article was interesting: http://tkf.github.io/2013/06/04/Emacs-is-dead.html The lack of multi-threading is #1 on his list, and it seems to me for good reason. If one of my emacs buffers locks up (which

Yes, and I tried using AutoHotKey to use spacebar as a modifier. But it's too hard to avoid conflict with "actual" spacebar usage. You definitely have to be careful with your left pinky. I've started "palming"
