Literally every single thing in the post is generalizing a feature that already exists. Don't you think removing these special cases makes the language simpler and easier to use? You might have a point though in a few releases when GAT

Why are you here flaming the Rust devs for having the audacity to dare release a new version of their software, instead of talking to the packagers that distribute years-old versions?

Side note: since memory leaks were deemed safe, there are easier ways to deliberately leak than using reference cycles. The most straightforward are `mem::forget` and `Box::leak`.

I was on a rollercoaster at Netflixland, but I couldn't enjoy it because an employee was sitting next to me the whole time listing all the rides I should try next.

If you were paying taxes, wouldn't this count as income, not capital gains? A programmer doesn't have to deal with capital gains if they buy a laptop and then use it to earn money.

> CDPR had a NIH problem. Bit of a tangent, but I don't think that's true. It's just ActionScript with a cute file extension - just like .docx is .xml with a cute file extension.

Personal preference mostly. rvm/gem/bundle is just a lot to set up and keep in your head compared to running a statically-linked binary. It feels like a relic of a previous era. Plus compiled languages are faster, and massively ea

For those who think this is a good thing: can you explain why people should have access to HTTPS and Tor (web privacy), PGP and Signal (communication privacy), but not Tornado Cash (financial privacy)?

Use any SSG not written in javascript and you'll be fine. Hugo, Zola, Jekyll, etc. Though if I was starting from scratch I might avoid Jekyll just because of the Ruby dependency.

0.1 ETH per address? That's $168 at current prices. Someone is spending a lot of money to prove a point. Where do I sign up to get some of this "dust"?

So far the only places to fully ban cryptocurrency (afaik) have been authoritarian countries like Russia[1] and China[2]. The US banning an emerging tech would not be a good look. [1]: https://www.coindesk.com/policy/20

Iran uses USD as well. We can't ban everything that a country we don't like uses. There would be nothing left.

I've been waiting for this to happen! Now I just have to decide, do I buy a house in 11 months when my lease is up, or do I hope for an extended crash and buy in 23 months?

I'd bet almost everyone is logged into email on their phone. If you can trigger a password reset over email, and can access the 2FA (SMS or TOTP app), you can get into just about anything.

I'd use revenue instead of profit, since their expenses don't disappear just because the site is down. If Google is walking down the street and stops to pick up a million dollar bill, it actually loses money.

TPMs and remote attestation on all platforms. For example, there's no reasonable way to run an adblocker on Android without rooting, and if you do root, many apps e.g. banking apps will refuse to run. The feature is called SafetyNet.

To me this feels similar to how most paper cash has traces of cocaine.[1] LEO will seize the cash, but if they re-enter it into circulation the cash becomes legitimate again. You're not liable if you spend the same contaminated dollar

I wonder why the deopt cutoff is 128 and not a nice round number like 256. It seems like switching on the value of a byte would not be that uncommon.
