Thank you for this link. It also reports 13 million users log in once per day. That, in the context of Facebook, is what I'd call an "active user". These, overwhelmingly, are the people who are taking this poll. 700,000 therefore represe

Please, if you're going to act as a proponent of responsible statistics, don't exaggerate like you did in your first line. (EDIT: wow, this is not an exaggeration. An adjacent link confirms it. Currently eating my words.) True, 700,000 i

Is it wrong to dislike when features are removed from a website? Is removal of features and reinstating the single stream of everything, a la Facebook circa 2004, "amazing"?

The new "constant stream of updates" does not work as well as the previous Live Feed feature. I personally find the new design not just less "addictive" but also quite repulsive. Seeing a stream of fifteen "Jane Doe just gave Joey Someshi

Selection bias exists, but it doesn't explain away numbers like "700,000" and "94%". The fact is that Facebook pissed off a huge number of their users, for seemingly no good reason, as the previous design was quite popular and functional

Yeah, maybe it's better than Twitter, but it's not as good as it was a month ago. They have removed the organizational features which brought me back to the site after several years of avoiding it. I can't see why they would want to "catch

I've read Perl Best Practices . Good book. I don't agree with every single one (the deep ?: structures in particular) but everything in there is very sane. I've also found that with http://perldoc.perl.org , I don't have to refer to th

Sounds good, but at this point I take any Perl 6 date projections with a big fat salt lick. Years ago, I slacked on updating my 2nd edition Camel Book to 3rd edition, figuring that I would just wait for the Perl 6 version. Ten years ago.

Halfway complete means Perl 6 will drop sometime around 2020. Sounds about right to me.

Oops, I stand corrected. All the news I read skipped that part. But I too can't imagine how the original hardware would not be able to handle it...

Passenger is a big win. I once ran nginx + mongrel_cluster, and while it probably had less overhead than the equivalent Apache + Passenger setup, it was more than cancelled out by the effort necessary to babysit the mongrel processes. Thi

No, that is incorrect. I’ve actually built a huge number of circuits, read tons of books and learned how to program a PIC basic stamp. I fucking love this shit. Then: I had to do my own research and found that, no, these guys get some of
