Limor is a first-class hacker and this is a first-class hack. I was present when, a couple years back, she used her Wave Bubble to prevent interruptions to a wedding ceremony. It worked perfectly, and upon shutting off the jammer, there w

If you're not already covering the brake, there is no penalty due to putting the turn signal there. In my opinion, adding a linked-braking system to the pedal would do more to improve rider safety than moving the turn signal controls.

I got nine straight years out of my Mac SE/30, five from my (used) PowerBook G3 Lombard and five from my iBook G4. Also my second generation iPod works fine (aside from a dead battery which was mostly my fault) and my 4th(?)-gen iPod is in

I wrote this comment for the blog but I am unsure that it posted correctly there: BMW Motorrad is similar to Apple in many ways: * Both were early players in their respective markets. Moreso than many other manufacturers, they have a lot o

I love the closing statement: Linux vs Windows/MacOS, all over again. You gain Freedom by using an open platform, making life worse for yourself in a thousand tiny ways, any one of which can easily be dismissed, so they are. But it’s still

'Verifiable' is the tough part. That is not my job. But if I were to give it a shot, I might investigate the effects of pesticide runoff on the farming environment, and those who live around it. Or animal farms' antibiotic carpet-bombing'

It's very infrequent that a scientific study's findings can be reduced to a headline without losing important information, especially when the headline is optimized for iconoclasm. This is no exception. The study found that organically- an

This is extremely groundbreaking work. Never before has a site combined chat, messageboard, and social networking features... with a JPEG of the irresistible Zachary Quinto.

That counts as "going to lengths to freeze state to a DB repeatedly". :) It's a little brutish, but I'm sure it's effective.

My biggest complaint with Seaside, admittedly informed by little personal experience, is that it resists scaling horizontally. Continuations are server state. Unless you go to lengths to freeze this state into a DB repeatedly, your web ap

I am surprised that no one has mentioned Amazon S3. You will definitely plunk down a few bucks to store 40TB there, but it's a ready-made solution to your problem. Edit: OK, now I see that S3 was suggested but vetoed. Unwise decision, in
