In a gamedev context, ECS stands for Entity Component System.

> Asking some of those people to pair all day every day is tantamount to asking them to switch careers. You got the mail on the head! That's exactly how I felt when I was told to pair program at a job for 6 months.

I know what you mean and I think that feeling comes from a difference between lisp the language (learn in a matter of hours) and lisp the ecosystem (takes much longer to get confident with). And, you really need to learn both, unless you ha

One of the main challenges is that you don't just make a PeerTube account and start uploading. You have to somehow get hosting for your videos, don't you?

Yes, a blood bag is exactly the impression I got. I was like "oh, okay. this represents the 'lifeblood' of development" or something.

Yours is a good use case. Doing everything in JS is so common now that I didn't even think about hiding the source code. I haven't considered it as a factor in a long time, but I do remember it being considered somewhat of a disad

Let me guess... Some kind of legacy business logic library that nobody in their right mind would want to port to JavaScript? I don't blame you.

Working at Amazon != selling your body parts. Some things are immoral and necessarily harmful, working for Amazon is not one of them.

I think your first paragraph is saying the same thing I said. Amazon-like companies can pay less because of the safety-nets. I get what you're saying in the rest of your comment and I can confirm that it's easy to take less pay be

Why does everyone ignore the fact that employment at Amazon is voluntary? When the employee was hired, they made an agreement that the payment was a fair trade for the work to be done. If it turns out that the pay was not fair after all, w

What I always ask is, why use classes at all? I love that newer language docs like the ones for Kotlin and Swift are telling people to use structs and bare functions.

I hope not. I hope the car that I paid for becomes simpler, so that I can repair it myself or at a local shop. That would also mean that I get to own the software the car runs. It's sad when actually owning something sounds like an ins

I think the reason is that OSM doesn't have a very large number of non-tech users that are apparently fun to piss off. If a /b/ type group isn't going to get a rise out of a decent number of people, they wouldn't co

Lync was nice and actually worked pretty well. Last time I used Skype for business though, it was like they took out all the parts of Lync that worked well and replaced them with the worst parts of (non-business) Skype.

What makes me cringe is the thought of trying to answer the video call which Skype proceeds to drop and you spend 15+ minutes trying to reconnect with the caller which leads to you just using the old fashion conference telephone sitting on

There is also a "mechanical hound" that chases Montag in Fahrenheit 451 and a similar killer cyborg guard dog creature in Snow Crash. Let's get some good fiction with optimistic views of robot animals, mmkay writers? ;)
