Interesting stuff. As an ops guy who's been doing this stuff for 15 years, I'm always faced with training junior sysadmins. I could see a tool like this being very helpful. If you want some more detailed feedback, I'd be happy to chat.

Websockets through ELB works fine if you use the TCP listener. You lose out on some HTTP-specific features like Cookie-based session stickiness, but it works great otherwise. We've been using Websockets/ELB in production for almost a year

Very nice UI/UX. If I was a .NET developer this is something I would consider using and paying for. 2 initial thoughts: 1. It's not clear how the integration works (API call during exception handling?). That mechanism is important to me,

Where are the PUTs? POST /inbound/faxes/{id}/mark - Mark as read/unread Shouldn't that be a PUT on /inbound/faxes/{id}? Seems like you're updating the representation of the fax, not performing some non-idempotent action (like a resend, wh

At OpDemand we're using WebSockets successfully through multiple ELBs. The trick is setting the listener to use TCP instead of HTTP. With TCP forwarding you lose X-Forwarded-For headers, Cookie stickiness and a few other HTTP-specific fea

Most of the excess charges I saw during my AWS consulting were due to dev/test environments with fat 64-bit instances that were left running overnight and during the weekends. Why? It's relatively easy to stand up environments in the cloud

Totally agree on the PaaS squeeze. It's a very tough problem space and consolidation is already on the horizon. These days everyone wants a streamlined, Heroku-style workflow. And yet it's interesting that despite the benefits of PaaS, ma

Most enterprise CIO's understand Amazon's place in cloud computing. You'd have to be criminally negligent not to. Most enterprise tools vendors are positioning for AWS support/compatibility as well. I'm attending a BMC webinar in a few mi

The AWS dashboard is a great tool if you're a cloud engineer; it's technical but necessarily so. As the CTO of OpDemand, I can tell you first-hand that users are willing to pay for a simplified and streamlined AWS management process. Our u

It sounds like you're a talented engineer who's comfortable working on the technical side of the house. If that's true, the biggest challenge you're likely to face is managerial. Being CTO in an agile environment is about managing the tech
