Isn't there two sets of money going towards OpenSSL? One set is for hiring 2 full time developers (which seems like the money that should go towards OpenBSD) and then the other set is going to OCAP for a security audit.

I don't see how setting business rules means that they aren't using a cryptographic hash. Can you explain why that has to be true? Perhaps eliminating a frequently made mistake by people who don't have much computer experti

We use https://commonkey.com/ , it works pretty great and all the encryption is done client side (although the usual caveats about javascript encryption still hold)

Oh I agree but the GP seemed to indicate that trusting client side logic is a solved problem for web apps. I was curious if he had any sort of examples since it doesn't seem to be something related to the issues he listed.

Why isn't it worth it in the UK? Is it because the railways are all optimized for passenger travel or just because of the small travel distances?

Are there any e-commerce platforms that trust the client to do all the business logic for an order/checkout? If so how do they prevent client side tampering with the business logic without redoing it on the server side?

This doesn't seem useful if you are pricing out anything less than a full (or multiple) racks of servers. For 2 servers with moderate specs (8 cores total, 16gb each) it claims the 3 year cost will be $120K. Most of that seems to be du

Yeah I'm not sure the cost for the infrastructure but I've seen quotes of $1-$2/Mbps for Cogent in various datacenters (assuming a 1-2Gbps commit I think). Makes sense though, I'm sure if you had to get the fiber to your

Is backhaul more expensive than getting a big Cogent connection for like $1/Mbps? Or do places like Charter/etc pay even less than that for their paid peering connections?

I haven't read the book but I think CanAm in the 70s was pretty much racing with no engineering restrictions. Hence you had the Porsche 917 putting out 1500hp+ and only weighing 1800 lbs.

Pretty sure that the law supersedes the lease. In NYC (possibly NY State), subletting is permitted unless the landlord can raise a reasonable objection within 30 days of being told you are subletting.

I believe in NYC, while the lease may say they require permission to sublet, the law says otherwise. So long as they don't have any reasonable reason to restrict you it's permitted.
