Indeed, this is true. Thanks for this. The realization that it is also in the best interest of an airline to reduce emissions, especially as the price of oil increases, really helps make me feel better. Not flying doesn't really reduce emis

This is one thing that bugs me about complaints about the carbon emissions of cars. Planes cause far more carbon emissions, and they do it way up in the atmosphere where it seems plausible that it actually does more damage. It's a giant e

"Download prevention" is impossible. The analog hole cannot be closed. If it can be delivered to our senses, then it can be copied.

WebWorkers have also been recently enhanced so that it is possible to pass a message with no copy (by moving it out of the current WebWorker; it loses it's reference to the data). I suspect taking advantage of this would greatly help in a g

The yield from has to be explicitly bubbled all the way up the call chain to the main loop.

Well... There actually are a completely parallel set of IO libraries, it just happens that the interface can be identical to the existing blocking interfaces because of the greenlet stack slicing magic... So it only appears like there are n

From a certain perspective it is a rational decision. Because the CPython API relies so heavily on the C stack, either some platform-specific assembly is required to slice up the C stack to implement green threads, or the entire CPython API

Guido has been resisting the stackless stack slicing assembly technique since I first learned about Python and Stackless Python in 1999. That's obviously never going to change.

I'm really looking forward to that future. See for example task.js: http://taskjs.org/ Also, if you want to see generators in v8 (spidermonkey has had them for years now) watch the issue: https://code.google.com/p/v8/issues/detai

The rust ARC stands for Atomic Reference Counting, not Automatic Reference Counting. An unfortunate namespace collision.

Yes. Smalltalk has the ifTrue: and ifFalse: methods on the Boolean object. x > y ifTrue: [ Transcript show: 'Truthy' ] So it is using polymorphism as the main mechanism. The True object implements ifTrue: by evaluating the block

The $3000 figure is probably referring to San Francisco. $2000 a month for a one bedroom in Mountain View is a fantasy. Sure, you can go south to sunnyvale or further, but that adds quite a significant commute if one is working in Palo Alto

The quality of the available housing in the Palo Alto/Mountain View area (crappy 50s/60s construction) plus the obscene prices make me sick. I just moved from Mountain View to escape this twisted market. I'm extremely lucky I work for a com

Erlang makes it easier because it enforces no shared state between actors, and each actor has it's own independent thread of control.
