Threads are a PITA everywhere. On Linux the SYSCALL stuff complicates things because of all the register moves, the FUTEX stuff, and potential races with how threads are exited.

I looked into this and it seems like no, these are not static binaries at all. They dynamically load stuff, and cython seems to be embedding very specific headers, including linux specific ones (asm/errno.h). I tried to build using mus

It would be a dream-come-true to be able to compile Python (or some kind of very-close Python) down to a static binary. I want to run it like a Go binary.

Intel slide deck here: https://linuxplumbersconf.org/event/4/contributions/283/atta... If they really support it, I didn't pay too close attention, but at least it's on their mind.

I would use this in a heartbeat if you make execute-only a first-class feature. That means segments with E only, no reading. My experience with every linker so far is that to have XO I will need to specify the memory layout in a linker scri

The site doesn't seem to be using cache, and is awfully slow. Or just me? I checked the headers, and found no-cache no-store.

Hard to say, everyone experiences IBS differently, so there are probably many variations out there. But you could definitely try to empty the contents completely and see what happens. Norovirus was no joke though - I got mild dehydration fr

Do things that reduce stress, and get a vertical mouse! That helped me. Working out, sitting properly also helps. My biggest issue was and still is stress, which causes muscles to tighten all over, and it can affect different parts, from th

Very illuminating. Must have taken a long time to write that blog post. Did the PS5 have a chip that could execute small neural networks? My PC doesn't have one right now, but if I bought the latest in GPU there is a dedicated chip alr

Indeed, this is a class-action suit. I don't have high hopes of the perpetrators getting jailed, but at least it's all out in the open now that the little guy shouldn't be able to win.

They are, but there are some drawbacks: 32-bit instructions can cross page-boundries and 16-bit instructions makes the length of the instruction dependent on a bit-pattern instead of a fixed-width.

I have a question: Let's say you compile FreeBSD yourself (or another kernel with 64-bit RISC-V support), and you decide that you don't want the C-extension (compressed instructions). Will you be able to switch this extension off

I have always understood the reason why Lua keeps getting embedded into games and game engines is because it's a language that you can reasonably hope non-technical people to be able to contribute a little bit from. I know that from ex

I am working on ultra-low latency emulation. I have a RISC-V emulator ( https://github.com/fwsGonzo/libriscv ) that I am creating to fork itself really fast and use almost no working memory. Programs can make do with 64k

When tens of millions of people protest something, it could just be because they have a legitimate grievance. That said, it should be perfectly OK to permanently ban seditionists and traitors, as well as those who egg them on. If those are

It really is the worst and most awful decision that RISC-V absolutely must retract, the sooner the better. We cannot have performance and compressed at the same time. There are other things about the C extension that make it extremely bad f

I wonder if the number and size of the 3-letter agencies in the US make this a certainty simply because people want to have something to do. And they can't go after money, not even the IRS does that: https://www.gq.com/

Maybe a full month to get GameBoy ROMs up, if I remember correctly. It did take a while, as there's always room for misunderstanding how something is supposed to work! But super worth it!

Yes, I would not dream of being able to compete with these juggernauts. Also, my use-case is for low overhead, low latency work - so I want to be able to have a VM ready to go in the time it usually takes linux to modify page tables! So, it

We already have FlatBuffers, which allow you to send structs on the wire without reinventing anything. It sounds like it's a good match here. Protobuf is better if you care about the byte count on the wire and less about the CPU time t

I've seen the graphs showing that the combined costs have risen much more than salaries and such. So it's no surprise. Nobody seems to know what the solution is, other than moving away from the places where the worst inequality is
