That graph shows iPhone sales year on year. I’d be interested to see recycling stats as I know Apple will recycle iPhones for free but I couldn’t find much with a quick search. How many Android devices are still in use after 7 years? And re

Wouldn’t want to see separate “topics” on hn, but would love to see posting of chatgpt content banned/discouraged - trying to figure out if a comment was written by a human or ai is tiring

Clearly we should all just use unixtime with seconds from midnight if you want a relative local time of day SI units can then be used instead of minutes, days, etc Makes much more sense https://www.decimalisetime.org/

A lot of it is also due to French pronunciation changes. There are many "french" loan words where the english version is much closer to the original french than the modern french pronunciation is -oyster for example. Then again se

Actually it should be "onety" and "onety-one". "ten" is as much of a problem as eleven and twelve. Mind you, I've always had a soft spot for dozenal so could quite happily go the other way, but I guess tha

Nice work. In a similar vein I've considered using twtxt for this kind of thing, having each server/service generate a stream of messages that you can selectively subscribe to. Obviously there a other (and better) ways to do this

Indeed. Religion may well be the best defence against memetic attacks. And I say this as a lifelong atheist, which is a distressing thought given the amount of deliberate memetic manipulation we are being subjected to.

G Heavy Industries - the maker of the keyboard used in the article - also makes a keyboard specifically for plover if you are interested. (not involved in the company, just a happy customer) https://www.gboards.ca/

Agreed and you’ve just described PowerShell which I think is perfect for this. That said, I do also appreciate bash scripts which are cleaner if you just have a long list of commands to execute and no real logic involved

I tried a Maltron keyboard (very similar to Kinesis Advantage) and loved the concave key wells - its the only keyboard I've ever had that I could confidently hit the number and FN keys without looking. Only reason I didn't buy it
