As someone that has been in this position (manager in the UK) I have to agree and think you have summed it up perfectly. However, it is occasionally successful and those (admittedly rare) occasions have been some of the most rewarding exper

And that’s when you create a performance improvement plan. If someone is underperforming then you take steps to try to understand why and help them to get to the level the company needs them to be at. Hopefully this works and everyone is ha

Good work. This is called management - performance reviews are a sop to try and make up for poor management but are utterly useless and often counter productive (there’s no better incentive to start job hunting than having to prepare for a

But not everyone uses wildcard certs so enumeration is a problem. Also lots of people use certs with internal hostnames on public servers (they shouldn’t but it does make some things easier and not everyone is aware of the security issues).

Another UK commenter - over here that cotton twill is known as moleskin and a lot of the army surplus is in that fabric which I agree is much nicer than the ripstop stuff

You want the same model but make sure they are from different batches. When buying SANs the vendor will routinely mix the disks supplied to minimise the chance of any manufacturing defects taking out multiple drivers at once

For me, noise cancelling ear phones playing pink noise works to blank everything out. Music I find too distracting and white noise too harsh (makes me feel like I have a hangover) but pink noise is soothing, almost like being in the womb an

Or maybe not. Turning the Sahara into a forest would have a massive climate impact. I am not a climate scientist but I’d imagine there would be significant changes to rainfall patterns over most of Europe, Africa, and the Middle East Edit -

As a native U.K. person that went to school in the seventies (ie long before spell checkers), I can assure you that British English used S rather than Z in the kind of words you are talking about.

Generally when I’m idly visualising something it is ‘in my mind’s eye’ as you put it. But if I’m really focused and close my eyes then everything else seems to disappear and I’m ‘really’ seeing it, not on the inside of my eyelids but it enc

Very similar to my process. Most people struggle with prioritising because they think that it is deciding what order to do things in - I like to say that far more important than that is deciding what things you are NOT going to do.

I know so many people that have read the book multiple times but seem to have somehow missed the fact that Cirdan has a beard. It’s like they have a blind spot and just can’t see it

The problem with this is the asymmetry of power relationships - if everything is transparent it is very easy for a powerful group to use that against an individual but much harder the other way around
