I'm not sure if I gave the impression that I think pirating games, songs, or movies is acceptable to me but it is certainly not. I have paid for every song I own, every movie I've watched, and every game I've played. No exceptions.

Within a month of releasing my very successful iPhone app TextPics, there were several Chinese clones using a slightly modified icon, all of my content, my design, layout, and with names like "TextPics Pro" and "TextPics(R)" or "TextPics+".

I think that is a most excellent analogy! I will now use that myself the next time the conversation comes up. Everyone is always so doom and gloom about any technology relating to the future of the human race but I think everyone adjusts, j

My app has been featured three times now by Apple (TextPics) www.textpicsapp.com. The first time, in early 2011, it spent around two weeks at around the #3 Top Paid app position, the second time (late 2011) it made it to #8 I believe and th

This reply made me smile, and is such a great example of why it's so hard to trust anything we read on the Internet, anywhere. I don't know which response to believe, if either, and don't know why I care so much either way. Edit: A little c

I see where the author is coming from with his arguments, but I'll bet 10 bucks his project won't be seeing any pull requests moving forward. Github did not supplant git, it created the market for git. If it weren't for github, we'd all sti

I'd still rather watch rats play basketball than a rat brain smear fly a fighter jet. It's just so much cuter.

Odd, this is from 2004, so it's 8 years old, which is like a century in tech years. I'm surprised I have not heard of more advancements in this (creepy!) field.

That was the point about "life is not fair" and again about "mitigating" the risks. I didn't say it removes the risks. Nothing does, not even big brother taking all our personal responsibility and freedoms away.

I know the term "Death Panels" pushes a lot of peoples buttons, but it sounds to me like a government agency that decides that someone, and later when money is more tight that some-subset is too expensive, is basically just that - a Death P

It is in fact stealing, just as "copying" a song is stealing (I know the HN audience won't like that!). "Copying" software is stealing it. Using a euphamism to alleviate your guilt regarding a crime is just self delusion. And I realize this
