IIRC Joe Armstrong said he was puzzled why people latched on to the term "BEAM" so much, and he preferred that it was simply referred to as the Erlang VM.

I've actually found it quite an active/engaging experience to take in some normal code-presenting videos/screencasts as audio-only (i.e. earphones in, phone in pocket), because you build up in your minds eye the code they

Software Unscripted https://twitter.com/sw_unscripted is good. I don't know whether it's well known or not. Possibly a hidden gem. Already mentioned, but Signals & Threads https://signalsandthreads.

Does this work put Ruby into a faster category than Python until if/when Python gets a JIT in its official implementation?

In general, most OS vs OS debates are pointless because so many people go at it with the unconscious bias "I have extensive experience of X. When I try Y then all the parts that work differently from X are obviously wrong and stupid&qu

I did some non-game programming on a PS2 Linux Kit and it wasn't particularly interesting. Just sitting at a normal Linux CLI with ancient versions of tools.

IIRC, at least around the time Apple Silicon was introduced, they were running some kind of taskforce to make code contributions to key open source projects to ensure they were compatible.

I don't pay much attention to washing the underside of such plates, and the washed plates don't seem to retain any noticeable dirt on the underside either. So I'm inclined to think there's not much of an actual problem.

You're overblowing it. Yes paredit etc will be faster, but just using normal editing in an editor that has decent generic treatment of parenthesis and autoindent is not too bad, and certainly not unusable.

I sometimes regret having built up tons of Bash aliases, because in the long term it ends up with me not really knowing half the tools I use, just my little cryptic vocabulary.

That latter line of thinking was quite apparent in Go, where a bunch of the global functions had signatures that weren't expressible in the type-system.

In that respect it's more about ML/SML from the 1970-80s. Even putting null-safety aside, the latter part of the post with destructuring tuples and pattern-matching shapes looks almost 1:1 like SML code!
