There are still people on this planet not using auto-complete when writing E-Mail? Those of us that use mail aliases? Youngsters these days.... Now if only someone would have a solution to me typing in the wrong IM window :-)

Netflix themselves recommend 2 Mb/s for "DVD quality". That puts then into the "good home broadband" range. (I get 1.5 Mb/s on my ADSL at home, but I am in a rural area)

Can you elaborate? Why do you need to fix the number of digital copies in a geographic area? When we all went from using Blockbusters (=akin to library) to using Netflix (=akin to what is being proposed upthread), did it break the economic

Hi, I posted the poll - for those who have an e-ink device, feel free to post which one you have and what your level of satisfaction with it is. By the way, I posted the poll because I would like one, but do not have one due to DRM-related

Okay, that is quite interesting and I'm all for say, improving design to make people happier when they are using a product. I like being happy. But I don't think this addresses what I see the real shortcoming of using focus groups at all -

Oh yeah, the blogger/HN identical orange favicon problem :-) What's worse for me is when apps/favicons use a single letter, leaving me only typography for discrimination (for example the google "g" and the guardian.co.uk "g" get me every ti

You guys know that in Europe this is common? It's called a "bank transfer" and it is trivial to do, just need people's bank account and routing number and yes, people do hand it out. Many (most? all?) bank websites support it. We have newly

I want to be left alone full-stop - but if the upthread idea was implemented right, that would help the situation, because you could seat people who don't want to talk next to each other, thus preventing the mismatch of a talker next to a n

We have plenty of theories of Software Engineering. The problem is that there are impediments to empirical verification of these theories. I don't get it - software engineering is not physics. There doesn't need to be a Grand Unifying The

I don't mean to put the boot in too much, but what comes across is not just lack of empathy but lack of self-knowledge. The fact that the OP has to think why people don't like him strikes me as... troubling. This is not a personal comment o

It's interesting - I manfully tried for a bit, but my interest in voting seems to have evaporated with the numbers. Like tc, I often vote to "balance out" as much as to "join the mob". My prediction: comment voting will drop precipitously.
