I think you're missing the point - the reason why Arrington/TechCrunch became popular was because Michael worked his ass off to make sure that he broke tech news in his niche. He paid his dues and now he's reaping the rewards from it. There

I think it might be interesting to see some sort of user-voted category system so that people who aren't interested in certain topics can filter them. Conversely, if someone was more interested in one topic at any particular time (eg, depen

Through trial and error I've figured out what times of the day I'm 'switched on' - for example, I'm not a morning person so I leave all the mindless stuff for mornings (answering emails etc). My best time of day to code is around 2pm - 9pm

I wholeheartedly support the idea of people self promoting if the articles are of relevance to HN readers. If I find the article is interesting, I really couldn't care less who submitted it, I'll upvote it anyway. The only time I actually l

As a non-US based person, it really doesn't bother me with all the Obama related material that is appearing (which is to be expected as obama-mania is still occurring) It will die down eventually, just let things run their natural course.

Agreed about Brad Bird. The other Pixar director I really like (actually more than Brad Bird) is Andrew Stanton. I think that Wall-E and Finding Nemo are Pixar's best works yet :)

You can solve the viewing angle problems without having to adjust the hardware too significantly - what about adjusting the perspective of the window that you're using depending on the angle that the thing is being viewed at. For instance,

This might sound strange, but instead of radio broadcasts, what about the possibility of doing broadcasts with bursts of light utilising lasers? I guess my thought is based off the old idea that you could intercept data off a modem by readi

Just throwing it out there, but what about the use of railgun or coilgun technology to accelerate the projectile? EDIT - seems aaron above has already mentioned this while I was reading up on railguns... dammit :P

I quite like Brian Cox's talk on the LHC. Whenever anyone has asked me what the big deal about it was, or if I knew anything about it (I'm the "go to geek" it seems) I've always referred them to that particular talk. He has a very eloquent
