100% agree. I had a rule that I needed to write at least 1 page a day. 1 page sometimes became 10, but it always started with 1.

My general rule is that if I look at code from 1 year ago and I'm not disappointed with year-ago-me, I'm not growing as a programmer.

Not really. The big issue is with long-term deterrence, not short-term. It is fairly easy to isolate something for 30/50/100/200 years. It is much harder to isolate something from future humanity with a high level of certaint

According to the top of the page, this was a "30 minute" read. It was 2 pages of text/images with minimal explanation which terminates in the middle of a section. It feels like something was only partially uploaded/copie

There's most likely not even a risk to the experiment itself from runaway plasma. Experiments like these use very low-density plasma (mBar) so despite being extremely hot, it's a fairly low mass overall of heated plasma. These exp

I've always had a dream of writing an OS plugin that would determine if you're typing QWERTY of Dvorak from your pattern of keystrokes and then switch over to the appropriate layout. V2 would go back and fix your garbled text.

It normally takes me 3-5 minutes to force my brain back to a "standard" layout. Up until then, there end up being RANDOM STRINGS OF CAPS and letters since I'm so used to ctrl in the capslock position as well as random jjs try

Ok, that makes so much more sense. Thank you. If it were in the 10-trillion K range, we would probably be in the regime of hadron dissociation. I say probably since the quark-hadron phase diagram is still less a precise piece of work and mo

I've built a few weekend-level projects with these. One I've loved the most is ambient lighting. I ringed the ceiling of one of my rooms with these and I can fade them in and out to a warm or cool white. It is great for hanging ou

I actually did all of the data analysis for my undergraduate thesis using this language. My fat fingers managed to stick an extra & after a ; and found a reproducible segfault in the interpreter. Walked down the hallway to John's (

Fair enough. A temp page just went up and it already seems slammed. But this was just announced this morning, so I wouldn't be surprised if everyone is throwing this together right now. On a side note, I'll be really interested to

I went to MIT for undergrad. When I was a senior in high school, I had the same hold up you did: "Will MIT neglect my humanities?" Short answer: no. MIT has a surprisingly strong humanities and arts department. All students are al

As a grad student, you're learning how to do research. You're probably surrounded by people who have been doing it for years. Heck, at this point, if someone even has a year on you, their skills probably seem phenomenal. Remember, you're cl
