I didn't wanted to make sensational title that says nothing about content. I hate this on HN. Such attention hunting is an act without honor. Article is about V8-juice author abandoning his library for reasons that I don't persona

To be fair - I've never seen such docs for SpiderMonkey. I may have just failed at finding them though. Keeping up-to date documentation of compiler is a horrible job. I think it's good enough that V8 may be built as standalone bi

This is why I used to ask some upfront payment for price estimation. Not much but enough to find if someone is serious and targeting me or if it's just a mass email to hundreds of people. In latter case I stood zero chance against students

I wonder if there is a place for startup working on cartooning major science discoveries. A cost of such visualization seems very low comparing to amount of important academic grants so it could be considered a reasonable marketing expense

That sounds like a good idea. Maybe not the best for me, as I always had trouble with drawing a line "our contract does not cover that" and I'd probably lose negotiations about how many points something is worth. It's still better than havi

I was working as a freelancer for a long time and I had a quite simple solution for lack of documentation. Before the first meeting I'd send a customer 12-page form to fill which covered most of the "what and why" of the project. It quickly

Overpriced conferences are a great opportunity for local user groups. I'm a member of one and we often invite one of the local conference speakers to do a free, less formal talk after the first one. Honestly, I believe that a conference tic

While I agree with most of your points, I think that you've mistaken engineering school with soft skills/personal management course that you can attend on weekends or order on DVD for $19.99. To be honest, I never actually believed anyone c

There is an algorithm for calculating median in O(n). I was wondering if choosing a pivot that is always a median would speed up quicksort. In theory it should always give O(n log n) time, as recursive calls would always take a half of inpu

Quite fun, but a task like md5 is an obvious "google, copy, paste". Even with normal editor and without any stability issues (I was asked to "auth" multiple times) it is a very complex algorithm.
