Wikipedia's picture is way more instantly intuitive (for non-americans who don't care much about parties, seinfeld or baseball) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Simpson%27s_paradox_contin...

I'm a C# veteran and have programmed for more than a decade. I started PHP last year for a project, and I must say 5.4 is quite rich in features (it's also very weird, agreed, but nothing beyond any control, the docs are great).

I'd rather like to see an article about the opposite - mutables in math, or better, programming in math. I know iterative algorithms and math do not have much in common, but it would be fascinating to explore some possibilties of open

All they really need to do is changing that awful name. BING.. i mean can u choose a more obvious name indicating that you dont understand aesthetics and are only off for the market share? Same for Windows fcking Vista. The only reason I d

You are right (I upvoted you :). Given current technology it is not reasonable possible to decrypt strongly encrypted data, however - there is strong evidence that using quantum computers this task is a matter of seconds. This technology i

Concerning better objectivity in voting, I'd like to see two separate counters for up and down votes, rather than the aggregated sum which conceals the actual number of votes and is sort of nontransparent since not all members are allowed t

No, but if something interesting just pops up you simple don't have the time to search but the first few recent new-pages before someone else will post. EDIT: Well yes, people don't search, it should be done automatically ;]

Interesting. Coincidentally I just wondered about how to not get in trouble with HN for providing a custom live feed (I decided to make my own rather than relying on unknown services or learning how to use searchyc). My solution to that pro

Nevermind, I'll create one myself.. I always wanted a better feed view of HN. I guess grouped by automatically derived tags and instant live-update could improve on that matter.

Unlikely, without an automated duplicate-check this will pop up every time it pops up somewhere. I might however delete it, if that's of any help.

Thanks, but this is not "live" enough. I'd vote for an integrated search rather than relying on external services with unknown cache intervals.

Yeah, just popped up on google news, not more than a rumor, but I thought to post it nevertheless. EDIT: And this is a duplicate ( http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=2234776 ) Any chance of getting a search function into HN?

There is also a really interesting (scarifying-wise) discussion about apathy, existentialism and generally missing purpose in America's daily life, in the later comments to check out (scroll down 1/3, i.e. a mile).

That's the point - it can do whatever you can do, all technical prerequisites are available (threads, background-requests, runtime-dynamic code etc). Once the proper tools are available providing diverse standard functions, it will spread

Given the topic of this discussion any type of answer counts, right? But by the way, interesting concept of anti-value. I'm sure Information Theory has got something to say about creation ex nihilo.

It seems all my comments appear as a blob, despite me adding line breaks. I'm not doing that on purpose, do I have to use a different system or editor in order to get more visual structure into it?
