Oh really? Specifically, which one? Give me a link. Keep in mind the latest inflation reading today was 3.33%y/y. This is also an optimistic reading -- if you use the exact same calculation the fed used back in the 80s inflation wo

Please, enlighten me. Show me a risk free asset that pays above the rate of inflation (don't forget to consider any taxes you might owe on interest and dividends!).

Obama...that was the president who authorized the FBI to infiltrate the Occupy Wallstreet movement and paint the protesters as rapists and weirdos, right? Democrats who think highly of him are no better than Republicans who think highly of

Wow you’re trapped in a bubble. The valley is the most close minded place I’ve ever lived. Live in NYC for a bit, it’s the polar opposite.

Counter-counter point: the valley is filled with over inflated egos and developers whose sole business model is stealing people’s private data to sell ads. They tend to think tech wouldn’t exist without them when in reality their only cont

Good. The Chinese government subsidizes and protects many industries within their economy. Additionally, workers in the United State have been forced to race to the bottom with China. I, for one, am happy to see some protectionism.

Who did? The Russian government? Russian citizens? How did they organize these protests? Where’s the evidence? Also, this is a completely different claim, separate from the “Russia interferes with our election” claim.

Your timeline is a list of accusations. You’ve provided no evidence to support your claim of Russian’s interfering with the election. More importanly: why should I care about Russians interfering with elections when we let corporations do t

Really? Cool! I’m sure you won’t have any troubles pointing me to some evidence then! Let’s see it... Also, I’m not alone in this, notable journalists such as Glenn Greenwald are also asking for evidence.

There was no “Russian meddling” in the election. Stop parroting nonsense without evidence. Hillary did cheat though. Her campaign directly collaborated with correct the record - last time I checked coordinating with a super pac was illegal

Bitcoin is about money and it’s properties. It has nothing to do with income verification, loan standards, or rating falsification.

> Free K-12 doesn't count as universal education? No. K-12 doesn't qualify you for a job in the "modern economy." The sad thing is it's not even about the education: companies only look for the degree.

Bitcoin is the real occupy wallstreet movement. Anyone not happy with the outcome of the financial crisis should be looking to leave a monetary system which has enabled our corrupt institutions to thrive.

Oh look, the guy who doesn’t understand how bonds work is still here! Let’s all listen to his uninformed opinion! I’ve been buying bitcoin since 2014 since I did understand what the fed was doing. I did pretty alright.

I don’t think anyone claimed the value of a dollar was constant. Even on the gold standard there were periods of inflation and deflation. The average value over time was stable though.

You’re assuming there’s a coupon. I explicitly said these were zero coupon. In this case the price at 9 year 11 month is higher than 750$, dumbass. The entire point of QE is to increase the bond price, thereby reducing the yield. You don

What? I said the initial price of the bond was roughly 750$ which represented a 6% yield. 900 comes from QE. If the fed wants a 10 year interest rate of 1%, they would buy bonds on the market until the price rose from 750$ to 900$. And th

Suppose there is a new issue zero-coupon 10 year bond with par value of $1000. The price for that bond is roughly $750 which gives me a 6%/yr return at maturity. I buy it, and the fed comes around 1 month later and decides they want t

Pretty common for me to get downvotes for making a statement that goes against the hackernews groupthink. Then their comment throttle kicks in and I can’t post for a few hours and the groupthink can continue without interruption.
