I see a future where media consumption via general purpose computing platforms is dead and only special super locked down devices can only play certain media. Seems like Disney+ will start us down that road

This. Java took too abstractions to absurd extremes. Contrast that with something like python which does things much better and uses a nice data model.

Well it is being fought on some level. More and more blogs have moved off of medium and hosting their own. I sense that rss is making a bit of a comeback as well

I couldn't agree more with this. I was forced into doing some UI coding and although I could never full embrace js, the package management aspects (esp having the sane default of not installing packages globally) were definitely super

I agree with this. My main grip with this type of government spending is not the action itself, but rather this is same party that whines and slashes foodstamp and WIC funding, yet has no issue with corporate welfare.

Well not sanction the country that got annexed for starters. If you are going to annex a whole country, which I am not advocating, then sanction Russia

This. The ruling class in the countries can still get the products and services they want. Can someone actually point to a case where broad sanctions like this has made a difference? Cuba has survived these sanctions for decades. When p

The title of this article is phenomenally bad. Yes outlawing encryption certainly is an outcome, but just like the article says even the executive branch is split on this issue. Much better title would have been "US Govt Renews End t

1 to 2 weeks turn around? Incredibly ridiculous as many rely on this as theit primary dev machine and Apple is telling people to stop using it...

True, but it's aggrevating that Apple never bothered to do this properly themselves. Plenty of developers have macbooks and I would think it's enough market share for them to ship newer versions or at least heavily support homebr

That made me rage the other day when I had an internet outage. I am honestly fed up with Nest esp after this new Google Nest branding, and just disconnected my thermostats from the internet. I rarely changed it from my scheduled settings

I read the same thing in an article but can't remember exactly where. Why manufacturers should be allowed to certify the safety of certain components of their own airplanes is beyond me.

I love my unifi setup at home. Yes some more configuration for sure, but once it's up, it's so rock solid. Compared to the Asus router I had before the wifi reliability is fantastic

Agreed. I have been very pleased with the cleaner asyncio API in 3.7 though. Much simpler for people writing async code for the first time.
