Hmm, perhaps you're right. But he seems to me to be in that category of authors who takes small bits of evidence and draws much to large of conclusions. (And yes, I'm doing the same thing with this very comment)

He seems like a sensationalist who has certain vendettas against specific companies and entities. I'm not sure why he's taken seriously at all... (As in, I really don't understand why he keeps getting posted on HN, not just s

I personally like this kind of submission. If it's something I was familiar with, then it's a good review/reminder; if it's something I was unfamiliar with, it's a good lesson.

I haven't used d3 but I used chart.js a little while ago. At the time is was relatively simple but lacking some features (like support for interactions). Looks like this newest version has added some of that which is great. My guess is

Good reminder I think that we should never pressure anyone to drink. Whether for health, family, religious, personal, or any other reasons, there's absolutely nothing wrong with choosing not to drink alcohol. I enjoy a drink now and th

I can't tell if you're being sarcastic, but assuming you're not... But first, 5 drinks in 2-3 hrs for men vs. 4 drinks in 2-3 hrs for women isn't that different. Second, women on average weigh less, so that contributes t

There's a CSS color named 'Gainsboro', and a color named 'NavajoWhite' that's not super close to white. 'RebeccaPurple', from a pragmatic sense, is easier to understand than those two in my opinion.

Fair points, I think you're right. I actually think it's probably a combination of what I mentioned and you mentioned. And definitely don't mean to make little of people who are in tough financial situations. But as you said,

Being conservative with alcohol doesn't reasonably imply being conservative with everything else in life. Plus, alcohol does have many realistic potential dangers - so being somewhat cautious is appropriate.

This feels sensationalist to me. Password requirements, a captcha, and (optional I think) phone verification are common on many sites. I was able to create an account in about 30 seconds. I think if the author wants to, he will be able to l

Is rate limiting by IP the best way to handle something like this (other than the obvious, allowing better passwords)? You could obviously rate limit by account, but then you make it easy for anyone to lock anyone else out of their account.
