While I hate ads as much as anyone, and use an ad-blocker myself, surely there could be some measure of illegality in the other direction also? Or put another way, surely consumers don't have a legal right to access Facebook without ad

But aren't interactions with nieces/nephews usually filtered through their parents, until they're grown up? Maybe it was just this way for me, but I didn't have many real interactions with my aunts/uncles until I gr

What counts as a crime though? Is reading anti-government articles a crime? Is viewing women in bathing suits (say you were shopping for your wife) a crime? Is unintentionally viewing a NSFW image on Reddit a crime? It would be interesting

The quote at the beginning of the SO question you linked to, one of the top-25 questions of all time, is so ironic given the current state of SO: > We believe that Stack Overflow should not just be a resource for very specific technical

Don't know why people are downvoting you, your comment was grey when I read it. I see nothing that makes your comment invalid and I think it contributes to the conversation. Perhaps it's not the popular opinion, but in a lot of ca

Thanks for the elaboration on your thinking - as far as I can tell, PostEverything is sort of an "anything-goes" op-ed section [0]. I fully agree that this would be a horrible "news" piece! [0]: https://www.wa

Why do you think it's unprofessional for the Washington Post to publish this article? I personally don't see anything particularly wrong with it so I'm curious as to what you find unprofessional about it.

Curious what your estimate of a 50th and a 99th percentile developer salary is for a new grad? And do you mean a 50th percentile CMU grad, or a 50th percentile CMU grad developer, or just overall?

Sexism, racism, homophobia, jingoism, etc are all considered unacceptable and politically-incorrect, but for some reason condescension and unjustified attacks are A-okay when it comes to certain regions of the US. I don't really unders

I was in downtown Camden, NJ once a couple years ago, being given a tour by a black pastor who's focus was on helping the poor of Camden turn away from drug addictions. (Point being, he knew the city very well, and knew its drug proble

What does Walmart do to create an environment where theft is easy and common? Seems like they do things about the same as any other store (from a shopper's standpoint).

There was a previous article[0]/discussion[1] on HN that contained a similar map of proposed high speed rail lines. This previous map made less sense because it encouraged building out new HSR lines across the vast expanses on the Amer

That seems... surprisingly cheap. $6600 could also get you a small apartment for two months in NYC, about 10% of the way to the TSA randomizer app, or a lawyer for a day. Sending something to Mars is by far the most incredible of those thin

I would argue the last "good" chart example, a chart of mass-shootings per president, is misleading as it compares four two-term presidents (Obama, W. Bush, Clinton, and Reagan) to a single-term president (H.W. Bush).
