I think both articles are just pretty much copied from the now hidden Stack Overflow question.

I hadn't heard it before, but it's a great term! I know one multiplayer Flash service has a problem where their server clocks had drifted apart, and it caused all sorts of crazy issues. Took them a couple of weeks to figure it out and fix t

Hee hee, I'm a fan of #8: 8. Heisenbug Source: Unknown A computer bug that disappears or alters its characteristics when an attempt is made to study it. On the other note - I personally think most online communities tend to get more lenient

Moderating any online community is extremely difficult. Rules are generally guidelines and not always set in stone. So, this leaves things up to the discretion of moderators. It can be quite difficult to determine if something is or is not

Tornadoes in the midwest and earthquakes in the west. You're doomed. Seriously though, as horrible as downtime is, I think most internet users aren't terribly surprised when they can't go to a specific website for a short period of time.

While not a Clancy thriller, I appreciate the well-written insights from this paper. I don't know the author yet, but thanks to him for taking the time to write this.

I actually haven't been a huge fan of any yet. SublimeCodeIntel hardly works for me (I use Sublime mostly for Ruby). Is Sublime Linter any good for Ruby?

If I was using a Mac, this would seem to have the same features as Sublime and more. Not sure though, haven't tried this one out obviously.

In my opinion, using unique passwords on every site you use is perhaps the key to keeping yourself safe. Facts: 1)Most people have way too many accounts to keep track of passwords for. 2)A unique password is essential. So, get a password m

Well, that's why you should use something like bcrypt and not a fast hashing algorithm. When you intentionally use a slow algorithm, it's much harder and slower to generate these tables. With no salt or a common salt, you can generate the h

And the fact that the teacher saw the flaw with the test and appreciated what you wrote. A teacher/professor who is unwilling to be wrong is the most dangerous kind there is. This teacher clearly was not one of those.

I think Mathematica is designed more for engineering/non programming folks. You would think this shouldn't affect people with programming backgrounds, but I also have felt Mathematica seems much harder to learn than some other languages.

My only real method is to turn off my modem, which has problems in itself, but is actually pretty effective most of the time. But now that I just bought the Humble Bundle, even that may not work :D

Darn, and here I thought open source projects were supposed to be free. I think the pay what you want model would be appropriate - and I think that may be what Granger hinted at, not sure.

I hate the favoritism people show to companies. Whenever Apple (and normally Google) come out with something, people go crazy just drooling to try it out. However, when Yahoo came out with Axis, I saw people saying things like 'Why doesn't
