The only way I've dealt with this is, every couple of years, to unfollow everyone and carefully pick who I follow again in a niche community that is interesting to me at the time.

I thought I was aphantasic, but after a coaching session with AphantasiaMeow, I'm sure I'm hypophantasic. And having none is very different from having a tiny amount - I think if I was motivated I could train to have phantasic abi

That's a super interesting question. I suspect it is because Facebook dominates the market for advertising-that-tracks. They're just not as good as other players at advertising-that-doesn't-track. So when they lost inventory

Yes! As a concrete example, people spent all of the C19 trying to fly, learning lots about aerodynamics along the way ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_aviation#19th_centu... ). This culminated in the Wright Bro

I don’t think they can do this - it feels like it would require a central contact database with an extra setting for that. But who knows, the private contact discovery is quite magical so maybe there’s a way…. https://signal.org&

By "they" I meant Google - instead of embedding just their own services in the SERP. I guess it could be a marketplace made by the industry as a whole or regulated by government. But yes, you’re right this needs thought. Developin

Yes, harmful behaviours by companies have to be regulated. We don’t let chemical waste get poured into rivers. Likewise, we shouldn’t allow harmful behaviour online. We have to as a society agree what that means, which is what is now finall

Early on Google adverts were entirely targeted on search terms and made tons of money. It’s a myth that targeting users is needed - it makes more profit, and creates a moat for the ad market, but that’s all. DuckDuckGo shows this is the cas

It’s a military reason. In the event of war you want complete control of comms systems for your military. This makes sense to me! I think it would be foolish of any army to use a comms system another country controls.
