Stack-based subroutine calls associated with structured programming came quite after people started to use subroutines in the assembly or higher level programming. Fortran, for example, gained those in eighties. Prior that everything was

C++ has no notion of a borrow checker and I am not aware of static checkers for the language that provides a coverage close to that of the Rust compiler. As I continue to see how very experienced C++ programmers make exploitable bugs tha

You may also consider Flow. It is literally JavaScript plus type annotations. The annotations can be even put into comments turning the files into vanilla JS making this very clear. So there is no danger that if FB abandons it one ends up w

I Norway I ended up with 6 different apps to charge various electrical cars that I rented. Surely it is annoying when I need to install yet another app. But after that it does not bother me. I just select the logo matching the the charging

This sandboxing for services provides similar isolation as various container runtimes. Plus due to integration with systemd things like live update without dropping a single connection is possible to implement with straightforward applicati

I was shocked by lack of public transport in Houston when I visited a friend there in 2008. He warned me to rent a car in the airport, but still it was unbelievable by European standards. And people in richer suburbs actively opposed any pu

I do not remember what triggered the subscription. I stopped it because most articles were not of my interests and arxiv.org and other resources became the thing. But I did miss the short SF stories.

One can train the body to burn some fat when running even when glycogen stores are full. That allows to push the depletion phase past the marathon distance. But according to my buddy who runs marathons such training is in itself is rather

I tried that as well and it does not work for me. What works is association with some stories. For example, to remember a credit card number I associate each 2 digits with a year that gives an event and then the number is a sequence of even

With oversized generators hydro provides an extra storage that can last weeks and even months at the pick usage depending on reservoir capacity. This is the battery effect that cannot be matched with molten salt.

A natural gas plant cannot be used as a battery either. So again, why hydro is not as flexible as such natural gas?

TransferWise rocks. I save about 16 Euro on a transfer of 500 euros to Spanish bank from Norwegian krones. And it works within seconds. The saving comes mostly from fees that the Spanish bank charges to receive international payments.

EDIT to clarify the parent comment. Essentially the paper claims that using classical mathematical analysis (which is the constructive analysis plus the Axiom of Choice) when interpreting the equations of physical models is poor choice. It

Why hydro is not as flexible? A cable from Germany to Norway is being built to use hydro plants in Norway as energy batteries. This is despite Germany having natural gas plants.

It greatly helps Apple that T2 is a separated chip specially designed to do one function well, that is to do crypto in a secure way even in presence of physical attacks. How to do that has been known for quite some time. For example, moder
