The article indirectly pointed out that the reason for previous overestimate was model error about solar system light background. The biggest source of uncertainty with the new estimate is modeling of background light of our galaxy. Too bad

My experience is that a brand of knife is less relevant than having a good sharpening tool that can be used instantly to regularly sharp the knife. Surely a knife with good balance and grip helps, but any knife requires regular sharpening,

It is highly non-trivial to extract private key from Apple encryption chips, last time I heared the price is at least 100K USD, and probably much higher now. So unless one values own secrets that high, a short password could be OK.

At least with 10.15 and earlier you can configure MacOS to hybernate after certain amount of time when it will ask for FDE password on wake up and load everything from the disk.

Hm, isn’t the trick is to have a separated account just to boot into with a strong password and remove the primary account from a set of accounts allowed to unlock the disk? I have used that on older macos not to bother with reinstallation

I have found Slack search at work just sucks. Whenever I tried it gives wrong priority to results. Plus questions and replies are too short and search can not pickup on context.

At my previous work I was involved with processing of data from 1024x800 cameras with 16 bit per pixel and nice optics. After proper calibration and trivial image processing they were not particularly blurry since they were able to resolve

Depending on the nature of the business it can be cheaper to run own servers even for smaller companies. I see that in Norway quite a few places see that and the pool of qualified people to run them is not small.

As long as one uses a single parser to read a particular input it matters little if it produces a result that is different from what some other parser generates as long as the parser has no security bugs. And JSON is simple enough to cover

I do not agree about JSON. As a format it is so trivial one can cover it with few test cases. SQL dialect that SQLite uses is vastly more complex.

The problem with space probes is that the radioactive fuel is highly radioactive plutonium. If probe explodes and plutonium disperses in atmosphere, that causes thousands deaths via lung cancer. Uranium does not causes that.
