There are definitely some that at least have tact and respect for the skills that developers have. I won't talk to any that don't come across in this way immediately. If they are all about buzzwords and clearly haven't taken

Haha so true, to me, and I'm sure a lot of others here, reading comes very naturally, it's by far the easiest way for me to consume information. I hate watching tutorial videos, for example because I'd much rather read tutori

People place orders saying they will buy it at x price and these are matched with sellers. I recommend checking out poloniex to understand how a crypto exchange works. Coinbase isn't actually an exchange rather they have to buy Bitcoin

Like any traded asset it's just based on the current buy and sell orders, same as with the stock market

Actually there was circle they were very similar to coinbase, I used them for a while. They decided to get out of Bitcoin for some reason and I have no idea why.

The whole idea of calling functional features advanced language features is a bit ridiculous I think. Yes, something like java only recently started supporting functional programming, but the paradigm has existed for a very long time.

No, map reduce can be run in parallel, at least in some cases.

Anyone who thinks more lines of code equals better software should not be working in this industry. Hopefully the naive observer you're referring to would be someone with no background in software development

Right, things that enable those currently in power to remain in power they do well. Things that help the average citizen, most definitely not.

Have you seen software developed by the government? Outside of things like NSA spying, military things, etc, it's generally terrible, I doubt there are many governments that could pull this off

I think it can be a good way to size up a person too, I once was in talks with an entrepreneur who was working on a business and wanted to eventually hire me as a technical lead. He would keep mentioning how he wanted to make the company in

These types of posts and the ensuing comments drive me crazy because they have mentions of very high salaries (for example people talking about 400k total compensation, etc) but sparse info on what type of developer positions actually pay t

There are still many concepts that transcend the specific language / platform. As I've become more attuned to this I'm sometimes horrified by code that supposedly senior engineers write that egregiously violate separation of

I can definitely really work for 8 hours a day if it's on my own project and I'm in the flow but no way I can ever get in they mindset to do it for an employer, especially that I have a less than spectacular salary, I'm guess

I can never grasp why any developer who didn't need the money would do anything other than work to build their own business. I know if I ever have enough to not worry about it I'll never work as an employee again.

I keep hearing salaries mentioned like this and I'm sure some developers make this but I really don't think the average developer is making this at these companies, based on salary comparison websites, etc. A developer who makes t

Cryptocurrency currency bots can be way more profitable in my opinion, I'm working on this myself. The complexity is no joke, to build a truly robust system, but hopefully it will be worth it
