I know exactly what you're talking about. After I started using my ASUS Transformer last year, I had to consciously train myself to not touch my laptop and desktop screens. That was painful enough that I'm firmly convinced that adding touch

On Apple's spec page I'm seeing "CDMA model A1429" and "GSM model A1429" (vs "GSM model A1428" for AT&T). I'll agree that the first two are different model names, but they look like the same model number ("A1429") to me. That's why I su

No, Verizon, AT&T and Sprint all broke out iPhone sales in their recent quarterly reports. Verizon + Sprint didn't outsell AT&T on total iPhones, so it would make no sense for them to be winning iPhone 5 converts fast enough to crea

But will PCs stay cheap? If more and more people find it simpler and easier to satisfy their computing needs with devices like smartphones and tablets, there could easily come a point where economies of scale start working against PCs, ac

Try shopping a MacBook Pro against an equivalently configured T-series ThinkPad from Lenovo. The price difference is usually huge (more than 30% cheaper for the entry-level 15-inch configuration I tried) and gets even worse if you spend a f

This just helps illustrate the absurdity of the US patent system. Samsung and Apple have already been at this for over a year and a half (longer if you count their pre-lawsuit discussions). Now, after we've been through lawsuit filings, dis

In this instance, I think Amazon's past transgressions make Bezos' argument more credible, not less. Amazon is a poster-child for successfully and profitably abusing the patent system by getting a trivial patent. If even they are willing to

The question isn't "if file-sharing were reduced, would the industry be beter or worse off". The question is "if the industry employs specific tactics to reduce file-sharing, will the industry be better or worse off". Given that the industr

Absolutely. From what I understand, one of the big reasons ICS updates have been so much more difficult than Gingerbread ones is that the driver interfaces changed for a lot more things in that jump (exacerbated by the tablet-only Honeycomb

While I agree manufacturer ADD is a problem, I reject the idea that every phone should come with two years of support. Those of us who buy high-end phones on-contract forget that off-contract Android phones can get very, very cheap. Sub $10

Was OMGPOP acquired with cash, stock or a mixture of the two? To the extent that there was a significant stock component to the acquisition, this is somewhat less bad than it looks, since Zynga's stock is down so much (though, of course, Zy

I'm sure that, to Apple, the more relevant question is: How many iOS device users would they lose by letting you sync iTunes library with your Android phone? I'd guess a lot, but even if that's wrong, it takes hundreds of incremental music

I'm far more bothered by Apple's process of discovering features that were on Palm / Windows Mobile / Symbian / ... phones for ages and then either patenting them or figuring out a way to twist decade-old Mac OS patents into covering them.
