I remember being in a 4th floor office and feeling the building sway. I can't imagine how terrifying 20+ floors up would be.

You are more than likely, completely correct. These types of jumps are probably so safe that you are in more danger riding in a car to the jump than taking the jump itself. If better data collection was mandated, similar to GA pilot logbook

You may be right, I do know that there are very few total skydiving deaths per year so high risk activities could inflate the figures fairly easily. However, I don't think wing suiting is counted in the statistics.

It's more of a rhetorical LD50. Otherwise Don Kellner would be dead as a doornail long before reaching his record. https://www.uspa.org/about-uspa/uspa-news/uspa-posthumously-... Edit: If the statistics held

Surgery has gotten a lot safer in the last couple decades however, there are still risks. General anesthesia used to be ten times more dangerous than it is now but it's still not zero.

Exclusionary zoning for density is just a bad idea in general. I can understand zoning for stuff like noise and pollution. But separating commercial, office, and residential zoning as well as separating dense and less dense is the biggest c

Sky diving is dangerous, but not that dangerous. A single jump is less dangerous than bunion removal surgery. (0.004% chance of death for skydiving and 0.01% for bunion removal) This puts the LD50 of parachute jumps around 1,700 jumps. (Not

One thing that eased a lot of my anxiety while transitioning to an independent adult was the knowledge that I could survive even without a home or job. My parents did a real good job teaching me how to live on my own and how to focus on the

There are also people who regret socializing and partying when they feel like they should have been studying instead. That's just kind of how life goes. I find it's much nicer to be stuck in stability than stuck in chaos.

This tracks with my own experience. When your parents do well and you can barely scrape by it's horrible. If your parents are struggling too then you have something in common at least. There is nothing worse than seeing the door close

When I was a kid, there was a shining rainbow at the end of the long slog through High School and College. I just had to not mess things up so bad I became unemployable. My parents were a shining example of this. Then 2008 hit and suddenly,

I understand why Amsterdam can focus on E-Bike speeds, but I sincerely wish other countries would do something similar to this for cars and trucks. It seems almost trivial to add adaptive governors and GPS Geofencing for cars.

The amount of material to create a self-sustaining colony on Mars would be remarkable. Just thinking about how much infrastructure is required to create a pencil makes my brain hurt. Also you need to consider that Mars has no oil resources.

Can you ban someone from walking to the store if it is less than a mile away? Or riding their bicycle to work if it is less than 4 miles away? If your government can do that, cars are not going to save you from the totalitarian dictatorship
