Lol at the proofs that are simply the words "trivial", "easy" etc. Why is it so hard to just write it out fully, in a completed paper -- it would barely add any length. I agree I may find them easy, but the attitude is h

Yes, exercise is not always easy, but it has been worth it. I have met plenty of amazing people and gone to many interesting places because of it, its not just about the exercise. I wouldn't exchange that for sitting around retweeting

What is the obsession of looking for a cheap way out if you are able bodied. Literally just go for a walk, run, or ride. I highly doubt doing some small activity can really compare to the full health benefits of some daily exercise.

At this stage I just reject communication anyway, I am never going to reach some dumb compromise with conservatives, [homo,trans]-phobes, racists, oligarch supporters, climate change deniers etc. In my view they are morally, ethically, scie

I still have absolutely zero idea on what is supposed to be new about this. Last time I read any of it, it seemed like they needed to go read some modern maths books because their ideas didn't really seem new. The papers just read like

I'm so sick of cars. The SUVs in my area are all luxury vehicles, solely driving rich children to school, and going to the shops. Absolutely zero reason to own one. If you truly need an SUV you probably need a tire compressor. I ride m

Do we really need more car focused infrastructure in the world? Can someone explain in more detail about why this is an important spot to link? How about a train line?

The corner in that picture looks absolutely disgusting, you can see the discontinuity. I would rather have a square corner if you are not going to bother to round them properly. The way to actually produce rounded squares is to fix the curv

This news report just looks like slinging dirt at Labour. The details seem very vague. Really this seems like some sort of scare piece. The true enemy to the Australian people is the Liberal party itself. If you are Australian vote them out

Algebraic geometry has many deep and powerful ideas. It started out by looking at the space described by the zeros of a polynomial, eg y^2 - x^3 - x = 0, x^2+y^2+1=0 But actually you do not need to talk about the underlying space directly.

The way the world and universe actually works seems to be described by maths you probably have no hope of understanding with that attitude.

How do you go about finding or searching for functions/code that generates a representation when you graph/run it? Was this done by hand or was there some search involved?

I agree. The vaccine was not about perfect protection. The risks were minimal for what it did provide. It was a reasonable decision. Being able to deploy a vaccine efficiently is what we want.

I think educating the public is fine. Teaching is fine. But that is a different context. Maybe you can encourage someone to learn more and eventually that ends up with them contributing something useful. That is not what is happening here.

This comment reads more like dismissive pedantry. What happens on the whole statistically matters more than hoping to get lucky with perhaps some local effects cancelling each other out. What is your actual point?

I am so sick of car culture. One good part of covid was seeing all the pointless car driving significantly reduced. The usual arguments I see here on HN which are pro cars are "what about the children/disabled/elderly".
