You make a good point but this is not a "strange assumption" by any stretch. You see Thunderbird has a "move" action. It allows you to move emails from a folder to another. Now somehow, this is apparently NOT implemented

You totally could use it for docking. A real ISS docking manoeuvre takes several hours. Orbits are very predictable and I'm quite confident that the error you'd get projecting your orbit 15min into the future would be good enough

Coule use zero if you sleep() just the right amount of time so that when the process wakes up, the current time contains the next frame's game state. That would reduce framerate a bit though.
