Totally - it was more of an example of the quality of the subreddits. If they’re willing to get those details right then they have the earlier steps really well established.

The r/personalfinance and r/financialindependence subreddits are quite good and even cover more exotic details like the “mega back door roth” otherwise known as “after tax 401k contribution in plan conversions to roth” (which can

This is probably the regulation you’re unaware of: https://www.wired.com/story/how-a-controversial-new-sex-traf... I suspect the increased liability risk is the main cause of what we’re seeing.

This is also my understanding - though I think it’s mostly a side effect of the regulation (which is intended to increase the liability around enabling sex trafficking). The article mentions this, but I agree with pessimizer that the articl

My comment was about why competitive Silicon Valley companies skew young and out of college, not about anything beyond that. Silicon Valley has an advantage (fame, high pay) that makes it easier for them to focus recruitment on highly selec

Tao has gotten a lot more public media attention for the most part (Netflix, shows, TV, news, etc.) than any of the others which remain more niche. I'd guess as a result the audiences of the others are better selected to lean more high

It's a mistake for someone with a massive audience and their own platform to give that up. There's a reason Spotify paid him one hundred million dollars (or whatever it was) - he thought he was getting the better side of that deal

I definitely agree with this sentiment in nearly every case - goal of society should be one where these kinds of characteristics are irrelevant and discriminating in some other way to correct is generally a bad idea. It was mostly a thought

I think it might be simpler - it's a lot easier to hire straight out of college kids that have no other obligations. You go to Stanford and MIT (already pre-filtered) and find kids that are really good. You don't have to overcome

Ideally yes, but if the discrimination is there in the process (by recruiters/interviewers intentional or not) then that's hard to do. People will think they're 'ignoring age and filtering for competence' when they&

I've also thought this would be an interesting approach, even explicitly. The laws on age discrimination are about discriminating against old people, but not about discriminating against young people. If age discrimination is real, tha

I thought the main cause of this was a recent law change regarding liability around sex trafficking: https://www.wired.com/story/how-a-controversial-new-sex-traf... Rather than risk this liability it's easier for

I wonder if there's regional variation depending on warehouses? I'm in SF and have had pretty good experiences. It's mostly a comparison I'm making to alternatives which I've found to be worse (usually the non-amazo

Agreed - Amazon knows who their real customers are and they have leverage over the sellers. It does surprise me though that given that there's a lot of counterfeit junk and scam-like sellers on the site (which is a pretty bad customer

In California non-competes are [edit: unenforceable] (it's arguably one of the reasons for Silicon Valley's success). It varies by state though, so not sure about Washington and elsewhere.

Old homeowners that benefit from prop13 don’t care and I can understand why. If you’re able to own properties and pay relatively no tax on property that’s worth 10x what you paid for it that’s an insane win. It also lets you vote to restric

A lot of people disliked AB5 - I was happy Prop22 passed. The companies were obviously operating in their own interests, but I also think the legislature was wrong (and just politically targeting ride share companies).

Yubikey is one - it requires the user touch a hardware device which signs something locally that I think is never sent? I don’t know enough of the implementation specifics, but it’s supposed to guard against this kind of thing.
