Arguably in app purchases have already corrupted a lot of the game space into slot machines. Tokens take that a step further and make it worse. Incentives create the world. On one side you have Apple Arcade trying to align incentives for a

Those screams exist in Palo Alto too - just mostly in the city council meetings.

Therac-25? There are so many other examples, this comment is just wildly wrong. Trying things has some inherent risk of failure, but that doesn’t mean it’s not worth working on hard problems. It just means you do the best you can to account

Yeah - even regular 1gbps down/35mbps up gigabit was hard to get when I first signed up. I called and asked the guy if it was available, he said not in my area and they'd contact me when it was. This seemed wrong since I'd re

Blower noise is way louder than cars if that’s what you were referring to. The reason I’ve been hesitant to complain is it feels wrong to go after the (mostly working immigrant) landscape companies the Palo Alto NIMBYs have all hired to do

I think this has been banned in Palo Alto for years, but is never enforced and there are a lot of them running all of the time. The suburbs are surprisingly loud because of this, louder than the cities I've lived in.

With Starlink I think the competition will get more real for them. In the rare markets with actual competition the shitty cable companies provide at least okay service. In Palo Alto I can get 1gbps down/35mbps up on Comcast for $89 (wi

The bay area M/F ratio is extremely skewed and the dating market is extremely competitive - (has way too many men). I would guess that in cities with high skew (in either direction) this creates a disincentive to staying together for o

Probably because I’m new to it (about a year), it’s hard, and I’m imperfect. Cutting milk I think would be easy (decent alternatives), but losing cheese would make things a lot more difficult.

I agree with this more than you might think. It’s basically the position I used to hold too. The main issue I have is that I think you can’t get the killing without the suffering. There’s another piece too, about killing intelligent life (e
