"So if it’s built on top of an open source stack, then it’s really hard for people to ensure that well, it continues to work next year for sure too. That’s the path we have been taking 20 years ago and that’s the path we currently cont

I'm about to build essentialy a render farm, so if eBay really is going to be flooded I need to hold off buying new. Anyone have any insight into this? Will the second hand market really get flooded? If so will it be soon, or are there

I think you have it around the wrong way. There are a vanishingly small number of countries where it is legal. If you want to know which ones, spoiler: look at stats for most homicides per capita. Freedom!!!

Thank you. I feel pretty lonely having this view myself. Hearing it from someone else at least makes me feel more confident that it's everyone else who is slightly nuts and not me.

It is immensely useful as is with no active development, although I'll have to take your word for that, I wasn't aware it isn't active - that has never affected me after years of heavy use

For the average HN reader spatialite is a tool which should be considered. If the KNN issues are a breaking point for someone, they are probably already in postgis territory.

I feel this is misleading. You can use various spatial operators which are functional on geographic CRSs. For the type of situation you would usually use this for, it handles geographic just fine. But agreed it isn't explicit like in p

I feel you should retract this comment so as to not mislead people. See extensive spatialite documentation on spatial operators here: http://www.gaia-gis.it/gaia-sins/spatialite-sql-4.2.0.html

Strongly recommending not using it in a blanket way is not helpful. I have used it extensively in an embedded product for many years, and it has just worked. Sure it doesn't have all the postgis goodies, but it has enough that it'

A lot of the comments here are rails oriented and anti state machine. In the context of rails that may make sense, but I do a lot of non rails ruby, and non object oriented Dev style, and state machines are a great way to write solid system
