The agricultural sector wants to keep fighting environmental legislation. It might seem stupid, but even though Rio Grande do Sul has lost about 50% of this year's soy harvest, you can be sure that farmers will be bailed out by the gov

Someone put a floppy icon on our intranet not long ago. I looked at it and sensed it was wrong. It was a bottom-side view and the dented corner was on the right. It's become an abstract symbol. Young people don't ever see the real

I recently decommissioned an Oracle Portal installation. I kept a backup of the database, but in order to keep a version I could easily lookup, I also copied it into an sqlite file. As I expected, I later had to recover various files that h

In the South of Brazil, Howler monkeys have been found to chew a plant and put it in wounds. The plant was then analysed and it really has healing properties.

One bottle of wine really is too much for a single person. It's really not normal to drink that much over lunch in Europe. Maybe at a party.

A client-server database would hash the SQL and cache the output of the parser. The end result is the same. Maybe SQLite could have a similar mechanism, but the cache stays on disk or an external memory cache.

Portugal is perhaps the best example of how colonialism doesn't really benefit the common man. The colonial wars only made sense to those few rich portuguese who had land in Africa. The whole Salazar period was one of stagnation and ma

SQL needs to make you add a where clause to update and delete. If you really want to delete or update everything, then you should have to state it like this: delete all rows from customers; update all rows from items set price=0;

Best job I ever had with regards to coding was for a small family business. I had to meet the requirements, of course, but otherwise I had total liberty. OTOH, nowadays I also have to deal with young (and not so young) coders that insist on

There's a huge golf course in my neighbourhood that doesn't pay property taxes, but they can't build on the land. If they had to pay property taxes, the land would probably be parceled and built upon. I don't like it tha

Just yesterday I was working on a monitoring agent that was a python script deployed through gitlab-ci, and executed inside a docker container through logstash. I bet you could do the same with about 5 lines of shell (wget|grep|curl -XPOST)

A friend of mine has a small office. At one time he used names of alcoholic beverages and put the corresponding bottle on top of each desktop. I use names of painters I like at home: Goya, Mondrian, Repin.

Interesting this stream of consciousness analogy. I use Perl a lot because it doesn't get in the way. The functional aspect of it lets you map from problem to solution easily.
