Given Stuxnet's purported sophistication, I'd be shocked if it didn't employ obfuscations that rendered decompilation ineffective, at least prior to annotation within IDA first, which doesn't appear to have been done here. Decompiler output

Title insults the intelligence of HN readers, that's obviously nothing more than minimally annotated Hex Rays decompiler output. There is nothing new to see here. A quick Google search for "stuxnet.zip" reveals other samples, undamaged by s

I'm not sure how you arrived at that. This guy's advice is generally good (division can be slow, even on modern desktop CPUs - particularly if a constant divisor is not available to the compiler), it's just his reasoning that's a bit flawed

Recently (and I suspect, at all times in the past) I've had trouble focusing with even one epileptic app throbbing in the background, or even redrawing some pointless animation or status update. For me one of the criteria for a desktop prog

In the hypothetical situation above, it has almost nothing to do with the search engine - it is both the user providing the query and selecting the result: this is the data of value, not which intermediary provided the list of results to se

Even Matt's allegation is softened by "I believe" here: there appears to be nothing that conclusively indicates Bing is solely targeting Google. For example, the observed behaviour could be a side-effect of a generic algorithm to extract an

It's possible to register non-profile extensions in the registry, specifically so software installed on the system can be shared across user accounts, and be installed/uninstalled orthogonally to Firefox. The downside, of course, is that Fi

Another simple approach seen in many places (e.g. Nucleus OS) is using ASCII characters. That way, you get a unique identifier and as you get quicker at recognising them, you also get to immediately ASCII character values in hex, which is g

"completely decentralized" is a strong claim when depending on a network that relies on a canonical directory of relays (at least during client bootstrap?), unless I'm missing something.

Crappy revisionist article, XMLHttpRequest was in Mozilla since at least 2000 (see https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=22942 ).. the notion that nobody used it until Gmail in 2004 is just dumb. Perhaps Gmail was the first polishe

It's as if they want to give the illusion that Groups is in any way maintained by tacking on a half-arsed clone of Reader, and it sucks. Ignoring the impedance mismatch between the borrowed UI and the data it projects, try clicking on a gro
