No, a doctor is not getting to you on a fast efficient light rail in an emergency.

True, the only part that can not be solved by microcode emulation is faster decoding. Most architectures other than x86 have fixed sized machine instructions now, making decoding fast and predictable.

China can make CPUs around as good as 2016-18 intel now.

Software or microcode emulation works pretty well. So it would be faster and more efficient when sticking to the new subset and Nx slower then using the emulation path.

For the last decade or so Europe has managed to kill its tech industry by coming up with regulations only corporations with deep pockets can afford to satisfy. This seems to be changing, so hopefully that works out.

Developing passes out of tree causes so many random headaches that it's not really worth doing it. Just spend 30 mins and build LLVM from source. Because : > It works perfectly with your system's LLVM installation It works perf

You are answering a question you want to answer, not the one I asked! :) Yes, dependent types can encode nice constraints, but so can asserts and assumes. I am not seeing the fundamental difference in yeeting these constraints to a solver.

There seems to be a bunch of papers and tools that extend CBMC for unbounded loops with k-induction!

Yeah I can see pointer weirdness being an issue. As for being not expressive enough for specifications, isn't the code itself a form of specification? :)

What's an invariant you can not encode in a general purpose programming language? I'd have assumed, by virtue of being Turing complete, you could express any invariant in almost any language?

Dafny seems to have loops too, and the way it solves the problem you mentioned is forcing the user to write these invariants. I assume if you were to develop such a system for C, C++, or Rust you'd similarly expect the user to do this.

What does it mean for verification to be efficient? Are there benchmarks showing dafny is faster than other inefficient options ?

This might be a stupid question, but why a separate programming language rather than aiming to verify/synthesize invariants in languages people use?

Me too. Until having language specific features really lost to AI auto complete, and now it's some vscode flavor.

I don't think this should be a matter of regulation, as you can create a device that broadcasts powerful signals at almost any frequency, with high school physics and garage engineering. It should very much be enforced though, similar
