Quantum mechanics does not permit parallel states to "communicate" in any way. The theory is purely linear (i.e. acts somewhat independently on all states), except for the wavefunction collapse phenomena. Any non-linenarity would,

Concentration camps were mainly in Poland, because at that time Poland had about as many Jews (~3 mil) as the rest of the Europe combined (~3.5 mil), and it was a fully controlled, occupied state. It was just an engineering optimisation, ho

The bottleneck is often RAM. This is especially clear when writing performance-oriented code in CUDA, where the amount of cores (threads) per one shared memory controller is in the order of thousands.

The paradox does not depend on the fairness of the coin. A real coin toss is, say, at least 25% probability for heads and at least 25% probability for tails. Therefore you can multiply the winnings by 4 and not by 2, which will give you a d

I don't get your idea with sampling. It will work in practice. To see that yourself: write a program that repeats this experiment again and again, compute the averages of the winnings, and you will see that they cannot be bounded by a

It is true that a mental patient can be forced to treatment only if (s)he is considered a serious danger to the society, or herself/himself (includes suicidal tendencies). In many jurisdictions a court's decision is necessary, usu

The real problem, I believe, is the shame associated with mental disorders, and addiction in particular. Addiction is in many cases a (sign of a) legitimate disease, rooted deeper than just a nasty habit of popping Hydrocodone pills. We hav

Reaction time is good in general, but rather useless in the traditional IQ tests, i.e. culture-neutral multiple choice pattern-based questions. If you are 25% faster than your neighbour it gives you the benefit of the additional 25% of the

Then why not sell your stock grants and buy some competitor shares? Similar risk, more diversification. Also this requires you to pay actual attention, instead of simply believing that "your company is the best company".

Whoops, you are right, I should have written (modulus) and not (modulus + 1). Another reason why this is an anti-pattern :). Thanks for correcting me!

It is OK to do (rand() % modulus) when (modulus + 1) divides (MAX_RAND + 1). Otherwise you will end up with non-uniform distribution. But yes, in general the rand-modulo pair is an anti-pattern.
