Do I missunderstand something or isn't it necessary for the real bad cases to intubate the person needing the ventilator? I think the bottleneck here is a lot more complicated than "moaaar" ventilators. Also if you have 1 Mio

fortunately in industrial farming, the infection risk the other way round (human→animal) is such a business risk, that adequate precautions are taken!

that's also the thing I was wondering. All the people keep talking about asymptomatic spread, yet that should be relatively ineffective at spreading (unless it's super contagious and one cough can infect dozens). Somehow I think p

death rate (mortality) of the total pouplation is around 1-2%/year. Yeah, the coronavirus would have to be huge to increase that - but what is your evidence that it's not being able to get as huge?

so, only a fraction will be infected? What's your evidence for that assumption? Or it's burnt out in Wuhan? How can Italy have like the same fatality number for _a lot_ less people? Basically we don't know and we've been

well, Spain is still a monarchy (and has been since the caliphate was pushed back), had a Civil war, where fascists won and then ruled for 40 years... Then the king declared that he would like democracy more than autoritarian rule (without

I think even in the US, there's a ton of defense contractors, which could produce a dozen of these in <2 weeks, iff they got told so. I don't think it's a 3d-printer problem though ;).

you didn't have those meds at all in 1918 either (and this was OPs point). and for the NZ case: did NZ ever have a real industry? With a 4.5 Mio. population today I somehow doubt that... As for basic industries (and meds): in western e

yeah, but even in 1918 not every city had a refinery or blast furnace. And even back then, a lot of the basic stuff was imported (think opium, cocain (probably the top medicines back then...), rare metals...). On top of that, in 1918, a lot

yeah, I agree that this is no problem if hospitals stop taking anyone over 40 with respiratory issues and leave them to die at home. Letality might approach 10-20% then (from all we know), but hey, we are young!
