As a non-native speaker, you have to sound it out. It's a pun of "can't have your cake and eat it". HN has been overrun with puns and attempts at humour in the past few years, while substantive comments have declined imh

Firefox mobile has extensions. I didn't get any ads because of ublock origin. No idea how people browse the web without adblockers. Not only because they are an assault on your attention, which is an important resource, but also becaus

If the current Reddit Enhancement Suite workaround for the horrible UI stops working, I'll just stop using it. Outside of small communities like small city subs and subs like /r/reeftanks or /r/fountainpenpals, it&#

I recently wrote a reply to someone else with the same argument about the German greens, which I'll recycle here: "It's bad enough that nuclear proponents ignore the massive cost of nuclear compared to renewables once you fac

As we are supposed to strongman other commenters arguments here, I'd say they are not posting to produce a narrative, but rather that they have allowed themselves to believe that they are the "obviously right", and everyone w

Why do so many otherwise seemingly rational people pretend that nuclear is the answer to our energy needs? It doesn't make sense economically, it's just wishful thinking. The only cheap nuclear energy is from plants that have alre

That's what happens when you ignore critical infrastructure for three decades. Of course, if the government were to correct the mistakes of the past, it would get worse for another decade. The necessary repairs would cause a lot more d

There's a workaround for this problem on PC, just in case you're not aware of it. Just press "2" or "3" to skip forward to 20 or 30 percent, which just usually long enough for the filler. And if not, you use &q
