I think the article agrees with you, that Kubernetes is the defacto orchestration tool. And that Amazon, Google, Microsoft all offer k8s as a service. But the point of the article is that the part that Docker provides in that stack is not s

Seems like they needed a latitude based timezones on top of longtitude timezones... A grid based timezone system. Sounds like it would pay for a lot of developers careers... And a nightmare. I grew up at 59 degrees north latitude. Daylight

My initial thought was that Kraken had released a Docker registry which was odd. But now I realise it is a separate project by Uber that is called Kraken. But as it is a project I am okay with the name clash. It kind of suits the distribute

Seems a pretty toxic place to work [1]. And toxic recruitment policy of requiring them to acquire 200 customers as part of the recruitment process. [1] https://www.wired.co.uk/article/revolut-trade-unions-labour-...

Oh, I was quite pissed at Apple back when I swapped my android phone for an iPhone and couldn't add an sd card. But just ordered enough built-in memory and 4-5 years on that was probably the last time I thought about SD cards.

Do people still use SD cards? I am fairly certain my kids have no idea what they are. I guess some hardcore photographers still swap SD cards in and out all the time. An area where wifi and cloud sync seems slow to proliferate. I have a few

This looks very good to me. I do not speak legalese but it seems to me to cover the API clauses I was looking for. I may be using this license for some projects going forward. :)

Think we need a standardised AGPL-like license that includes API as well as code. (Cue Oracle v Google ) There may be several in existence already? To prevent AWS and its ilk duplicating features of other's products but not really run

Though it seems Mr Eastep did also end development of Shorewall back in 2005: http://lists.shorewall.net/pipermail/shorewall-users/2005-Ma... Not sure what happened back then but he must have had a change of heart

Shorewall has been my goto firewall for years and still is. If any of you have ever followed my postfix howto [1] and others over the years, Shorewall has always been since 2005 the first thing to install and configure. It fits the balance

Thanks, sorry about the suspicion. Contracting as a software engineer is usually worth it, though not always. But it certainly depends on location ie demand, unless you have a very good network already. And also depends on experience. Contr

(A bit suspicious of the survey form, seems a bit recruiter bate to me) I love contracting. But that is my experience. Other roles, areas, personalities it may not work, and other types of contracting it may be very different. Good bits: -

This is why I can see why Kubeless [1], Fission [2] and OpenFAAS [3] are gaining traction. But my take is always that it depends on the size of your company, your cloud strategy and how much serverless you are using. * If you are small comp

Me too except for one thing: Loud motorbikes are very bad for your own hearing and disturbing everyone else's peace, but it does make you safer as cars can hear you come. Except if they are playing some loud Metal on the car stereo.
