That is far too low, and far too bureaucratic and far too easy to game. It should simply be a fixed number of visas allocated to the highest wage applicants, like an auction, end of story.

Well that is the original stated legislative intent, for "jobs local people can't do." But in reality, this was never an enforced requirement. It is very common for expensive americans to be fired and replaced with a cheaper

American visa programs are run for the benefit of americans. Whether or not the visa holder benefits is incidental and not the point of US law.

I love using GAE as well, but I'll be damned if I can find a job using it. It is almost impossible. The few that exist are in the highest-cost locations in America. In that sense I think it's a failure; it simply hasn't be

The study found that 51 percent of the country’s $1 billion startup companies had at least one immigrant founder. To say that "immigrants founded 51% of U.S. billion-dollar startups" seems a bit misleading to me.

I did a quick comparison. This doesn't include all the costs, but it should give you an idea of what he/she means: The median sales price of a Santa Clara County 3 bedroom house is $820,000. This is $3,877/mo, plus $850/

buffett also likes companies with a "moat", which (arguably) IBM's patent portfolio provides. Also they can borrow at incredibly cheap rates, which makes them useful as a financial company. (like GE / GE Capital)

I support it. I think higher wages for unskilled and semi-skilled workers is generally a good thing. But then, I make a conscious effort to live in an area with reasonable housing prices.
