I'm rather unimpressed with both. Wave is really cool technology. I won't deny that. However it's UI screams get lost in me. Buzz it much better but it's still more complicated than twitter and uglier than Facebook. It's this horrible middl

At the time the focus of the conversation was on theft, which can get relabeled as lost.

A year or two ago, an NYPD officer told us crime was up in the city and that it just wasn't getting reported. Yet another case of making your metrics.

It's hard out there for a venture capitalist... Cry me a river. Let engineers choose the life that it best for them.

Unless you code in raw machine code, everything is a source code transformation.

The article claims that it's stored in DOM and can manipulated as such. To me the big win though is that using this means things should get escaped properly by default.

Not really. You can still separate MVC style. Templates have always had some display logic, which is ok. What you don't want is intermixed application logic.

That's what happens if you teach the facts devoid of the relations. The history classes where they taught relations I got something out of. The others are just useless footnotes in my education.

Probably the best iPad article so far. I think the iPad's winning features are misjudged. That it's simple to use is pointless; YouTube clearly illustrates idiots can use computers and do stuff on the internet. However since it's "just a la

I'm not sure creativity or rules are a good distinction. People can engineer lots of things in different ways and software can have plenty of rules.

What I'm trying to say is engineer is a generic term, and the PE's can go get their own damned word.

Right but we still call those non-PE'd engineers engineers. And in many cases the "isn't a hazard" aspect is only a tiny part of the design.

What I still don't get though is what that made up distinction is.

Thats because for large chunks of engineering, it doesn't matter. Engineers work on tons of things many of which aren't life critical.

Right... The world is full of engineers without certifications. Did the guy who designed the circuitry of my TV have a PE? How about the guy designing the intake manifold of my car? What did your friend do in those seven years before he got

Common usage of DSL seems to mean an API whose usage looks more like a secondary language rather than the host language. At least that's my interpretation. A case example would be jQuery. Which while it is JavaScript, idiomatic code using j

We tried life without multitasking. It sucked. It turns out there are a number of cases where multitasking helps especially when networked. I guess you can makes special cases for Email, Twitter, Instant Messaging, and Music however it star

As a non-Lisp person, I find the reliance on LispWorks off putting. Mainly the 5-hour runtime limit on the personal version.

I didn't find it offensive. It just means you have to think twice before using fancy stuff in code other people will be maintaining.

Correct to a point, but only a point. There is a fundamental difference between an iPhone/iPod and an iPad. The iPad has enough interface bandwidth to be a family's only computing device. Which means it's significantly harder to get started

I think there are more solutions than just open or closed. I just recently tried my hand at Blackberry development. It runs 2 type of code. Signed and unsigned. Accessing certain API's requires signed code.

As the young team lead on a team composed of mostly older programmers, I say older programmers pay off. I'm quite happy with their experience. Much less explaining to do. And they know to investigate the hairy bits.
