Most of the potheads I know are reasonably successful in life. The only pothead who seems to be going nowhere was going nowhere before he smoked weed.

I heard that pronunciation from a couple of IBM guys about 15 years ago.

I almost never hit yes for those popups. Much of the information I touch should never leave the company. It's probably safe to send the crash dump but it's safer still to not.

Screen's primary payoff is when your connection to another machine goes down a lot for whatever reason. A good wm can handle the multiplexing better but they don't restore context like screen.

I think the caveat is primarily muscle memory. If an action is in muscle memory it's almost always faster. I don't think about how to switch desktops or save a file so the keyboard is faster. However fancy cursor movement(like skip ahead on

iOS4 has one. At the home screen double press the home button. Then just hold an wait on an app for the option to kill it. I've used it a few times. Sometimes apps need smacking around.

I'll pick on Haskell since that's the one I've used and like. Sometimes you get the feeling that people go overboard with the type system, I've passed over potentially better libraries for ones that are a bit more redneck friendly. The next

I'm impressed and unimpressed with the iPhone. There are a number of neat things in the touch interfaces. However the lack of menus is very limiting at times. Tertiary functionality is subsequently missing or obscure.

That's awesome. I'm always impressed by the reliability work that comes out of NASA. I don't regret a single penny of my tax dollars which goes to them just for this sort of thing alone.

I think EULA's are considered signed to some degree. I don't know how or if that reasoning extends to online TOS. I wouldn't be surprised to learn the courts are fairly liberal in what they consider a contract but don't give all contracts t

The inherent power imbalance weakens the TOS's ethical standing. Facebook has lawyers. I'm not a lawyer nor can I hire one for every agreement. Which means, most people interpret the TOS to mean "I agree to no be a dick." Also any agreement

I'm not an iPhone user but I imagine most people would just suck it up and get a case. All the other options tend to suck more.

That type of thing would probably wind up being way too limited. It has to be generated and checked by a computer so it's going to tend towards a pattern and not be arbitrary enough. And as you make it more convoluted you're probably going

I think the problem is systemic. If you look at any one part of the system, you wind up saying "that's out of whack but it's only a small percentage." The problem seems to be that those small percentages are compounded.

Meh! The everyone runs their own personal server model is flawed. It imposes responsibility on the user. I'm fairly technically adept and I don't want to have to track yet another service on my computer. Nor is it really compatible with any

Cold might be a blessing in disguise. Pretty much any off Earth colony is going to require extensive life support. All that machinery will need a place to dump it's excess heat.

The FSF needs a good Joe Sixpack visible flagship "product". Most programmers respect code before the message. I think a decent flagship product would go a long way towards increasing the visibility and understanding of the message.

This whole thing is a giant un-story. The internet drama has far outweighed it's significance. This isn't the first iPhone; it's just a prototype of an n+1 version iPhone. It's not like we didn't know Apple would come out with a newer model
