If we just charge them for the pollution, they'll fix it. The cost of fixing their equipment will actually save them money, but they won't fix it right now because they don't have the activation energy. This is easy, let'

It's pretty easy to disable the spectre mitigations, and pretty easy to measure the performance impact (~10% in some workloads).

> What we get in return for all that pain is slightly faster execution We also get protections against whole classes of security bugs, ala Spectre and other vulns. Some of those protections make speed tradeoffs.

I unsubscribe immediately after subscribing. If someone in my household notices the lapsed subscription after a month, only then do I resub. We're usually, but not always, subbed to Netflix.

Everyone can benefit from a union IMO. The Googlers that most need one are probably contractors (ie, not actually Googlers).

From my limited testing, carriers are whitelisting traffic for high-bandwidth. When I establish a vpn tunnel on my Tmobile sim card, bandwidth drops dramatically. Presumably because they can't inspect it.

Definitely true. But the causation may be backwards. Perhaps people are making the decision not to have kids based on how expensive it would be, the expense in opportunity cost and career advancement is higher with the more income you have.

This is an interesting point. You seem to be implying that rising incomes are causing people to choose to have fewer children. However, it could just as easily be that having children is a drag on people's incomes.

We do know masks prevent the spread disease. Look in any Operating Room. If masking by the general public is shown to be ineffective, that only argues for further education on how to mask properly.

It's such a childish game. You just choose the problem you want to solve, and work it back from the whys and start at the beginning. When I worked SAFe, I was able to point every single outage at the SAFe baloney using this technique.
