I don't think there's any such thing as what the term "brainwashing" implies, but it is effectively a systematic form of mind control. If you can implant a thought and have it take hold, have the person own it and belie

It's not the NSA doing this intimidation, though they may well be facilitating it. I do agree that journalism is under siege in the US, however. I feel like the Obama administration would really like to put a stop to even the possibil

It is hard to beat a good CS curriculum with real teachers, peers, assignments, tests and grades. These things don't work well for everyone, and the pressure can be pretty intense at times, but damnit that pressure can really burn stuf

I don't know about you all, but public school did an abysmal job of teaching me any US history post-WWII. It's like nothing has happened in this country since the women's suffrage movement, with WWII a hasty footnote. Honest

As I've commented before: it provides a perverse incentive to editorialize a title until it gets upvoted to the front page and gets enough attention from a mod to be corrected. It makes the game of titling a submission even more compl

In some spheres the market is already swinging back towards the "private cloud", where the technologies hammered out from large scale cloud computing are available as commodity software and hardware solutions. And so the cycle co

Pain is not terribly well understood. I mean, we generally know how nerve impulses convey a signal to the CNS, but how the brain chooses to interpret those signals as "pain" is still something of a mystery. There is an area of re

Indeed, some others have mentioned the Gossamer Albatross, which was the result of progressive development of earlier fixed-wing human-powered flying machines. Long flying solar variants of this were made, so it is probably quite feasible
