Now I'm curious as to what the startup did.

node.js + coffeescript is the new sexy! It's going to kill my weekend :)

The nice thing about this, for all of you people who understandably don't get it, is that setting up wildcard dns on OS X is a royal PITA. You can't just modify /etc/hosts, you have to http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20051102

This feels like Reddit to me. It's a quick laugh, and lets us feel smug in our shared values. Not informative, insightful, or hacker news. Flagged.

I find similar effects from remembering random details of people's lives, as well as creating inside jokes.

I assume that the bar will be (much?) higher for late applicants. I think this is a way to make sure that YC doesn't miss out on the next Facebook. When the bulk of returns are made on the outliers, this makes sense.

Cassandra is by most accounts a pain to setup and administor. Mongo has good docs.

I feel like instead of opening up the bulkhead, pulling out crystals, and rearranging, future sci-fi spaceship repairs should happen via ipad juggling.

Don't worry, it will get federated pretty soon. Remember when AOL owned instant messaging?

I've done some limited evaluation of TS. Basically it's easy to configure like Squid/Varnish/etc, but what makes it stand out is that it has a really extensive and flexible plugin api. You can dig into the docs on it here: http://incubat

It's interesting to me that they chose to emphasize the 2nd derivative of jobs (we're looking at the slope of the job loss/month). It's not good, it's not getting better, it's just getting worse slower, with hope of getting better soon.

LinkedIn is doing some really great stuff. IMHO, they are the company who has done the most interesting things with OSS search technology and given back to the community.

Does this make more sense than targeting LLVM? It doesn't seem easier to maintain, and you won't get the advantages of the optimizations/work already done.

On the contrary, having a real data structure that represents the query you want your ORM to execute removes potential bugs! The alternative/old method of generating SQL was a bunch of kludgy string concatenation.

I don't think we're taking it that seriously. We just had to pick a word to describe it, and suicide was close enough, while being dramatic enough to put in a headline.

They do claim it costs 3x. If someone told me that they had a kit car convertible with the crash safety of a Honda Accord, but it cost $80k, I don't think I'd be surprised.

Is there a hidden pop culture reference here (goats teleporting), or is the humor random?
