If you think a little, this is "OpenTable for shopping." Apparently, all the restaurants hate opentable, but they feel compelled to use it, because their competitors do.

Webbit seems like a thin wrapper around Netty to make Netty do websockets. Unless Webbit grossly screws things up, it seems like a reasonable choice, because all the work falls to Netty, a well-known and much-used library.

The current problem with hacker news is that every fucking discussion becomes meta and normal comments are buried. I'd be happy if there were a couple "Discuss HN" threads around, because then it would be less prone to leak out across th

I tend to work more with document-like stores than SQL these days, so there may be more idiomatic solutions.... If you're complaining about having to update the fields in your object, I think thats kinda silly. You bought into the idea of

I've been trying to ignore this particular flame-war, but your example is doing fundamentally less, because it's not binding objects to json (which was what you originally asked for). I actually cannot write your example easily in Sinatra/R

I've been hacking Rails since 2004, and I've made the switch to Java (dropwizard+mustache) for basic web development this year (sometimes with a meteor-like micro-framework I rolled myself). Benefits: - Higher quality code. Java is easier

Everything mentioned is MIT-licensed, and like many OSS authors, we would love any ideas or code in there to be widely used in virtually any capacity. Also, if you're in or near SF, I'd be happy to get coffee sometime.

Hah! tectonic and I applied to YC with almost exactly this in 2009?! We went as far as building a browser-based IDE-like environment for generating these, and a language called parsley for expressing the scrapes. If you're interested in t

This is also what experience is for. It teaches you the probability that you will need the abstraction in the future. As a beginner, you should err on the side of YAGNI; as an expert, you probably already know what to do.

For some context, I believe many/most people doing PAAS (e.g. Heroku, DotCloud, Cloudbees, Node*) are using LXC to create slices/dynos/shards/whatever.
